Jeremiah 4:6–9 — The New International Version (NIV)

Raise the signal to go to Zion!

Flee for safety without delay!

For I am bringing disaster from the north,

even terrible destruction.”

A lion has come out of his lair;

a destroyer of nations has set out.

He has left his place

to lay waste your land.

Your towns will lie in ruins

without inhabitant.

So put on sackcloth,

lament and wail,

for the fierce anger of the Lord

has not turned away from us.

“In that day,” declares the Lord,

“the king and the officials will lose heart,

the priests will be horrified,

and the prophets will be appalled.”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Raise a standard toward Zion,

flee for safety, stay not,

for I bring disaster from the north,

and great destruction.

A lion has gone up from his thicket,

a destroyer of nations has set out;

he has gone out from his place

to make your land a waste;

your cities will be ruins

without inhabitant.

For this put on sackcloth,

lament and wail,

for the fierce anger of the Lord

has not turned back from us.”

“In that day, declares the Lord, courage shall fail both king and officials. The priests shall be appalled and the prophets astounded.”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction. The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant. For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the Lord is not turned back from us. And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the Lord, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Raise a signal flag as a warning for Jerusalem:

‘Flee now! Do not delay!’

For I am bringing terrible destruction upon you

from the north.”

A lion stalks from its den,

a destroyer of nations.

It has left its lair and is headed your way.

It’s going to devastate your land!

Your towns will lie in ruins,

with no one living in them anymore.

So put on clothes of mourning

and weep with broken hearts,

for the fierce anger of the Lord

is still upon us.

“In that day,” says the Lord,

“the king and the officials will tremble in fear.

The priests will be struck with horror,

and the prophets will be appalled.”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — New Century Version (NCV)

Raise the signal flag toward Jerusalem!

Run for your lives, and don’t wait,

because I am bringing disaster from the north

There will be terrible destruction.”

A lion has come out of his den;

a destroyer of nations has begun to march.

He has left his home

to destroy your land.

Your towns will be destroyed

with no one left to live in them.

So put on rough cloth,

show how sad you are, and cry loudly.

The terrible anger of the Lord

has not turned away from us.

“When this happens,” says the Lord,

“the king and officers will lose their courage.

The priests will be terribly afraid,

and the prophets will be shocked!”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Set up a standard toward Zion: flee for safety, stay not; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction. A lion is gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations; he is on his way, he is gone forth from his place, to make thy land desolate, that thy cities be laid waste, without inhabitant. For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of Jehovah is not turned back from us. And it shall come to pass at that day, saith Jehovah, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Set up a banner toward Zion; take to flight, stay not! For I am bringing evil from the north, and a great destruction. The lion is come up from his thicket, the destroyer of the nations is on his way; he is gone forth from his place, to make thy land desolate; thy cities shall be laid waste, without inhabitant. For this, gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl! for the fierce anger of Jehovah is not turned away from us. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Jehovah, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall be amazed.

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Raise the flag to signal people to go to Zion.

Take cover!

Don’t just stand there!

I’m bringing disaster and widespread destruction from the north.

A lion has come out of its lair.

A destroyer of nations has set out.

He has left his place to destroy your land.

Your cities will be ruined, and no one will live in them.

So put on sackcloth, mourn, and cry

because the Lord’s burning anger hasn’t turned away from us.

“When that day comes,” declares the Lord

“the king and the leaders will lose their courage.

The priests will be stunned.

The prophets will be amazed and astonished.”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Lift up a signal flag toward Zion.

Run for cover! Don’t stand still!

For I am bringing disaster from the north—

a great destruction.

A lion has gone up from his thicket;

a destroyer of nations has set out.

He has left his lair

to make your land a waste.

Your cities will be reduced to uninhabited ruins.

Because of this, put on sackcloth;

mourn and wail,

for the Lord’s burning anger

has not turned away from us.

“On that day”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“the king and the officials will lose their courage. The priests will tremble in fear, and the prophets will be scared speechless.”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Raise a standard toward Zion,

flee for safety, do not delay,

for I am bringing evil from the north,

and a great destruction.

A lion has gone up from its thicket,

a destroyer of nations has set out;

he has gone out from his place

to make your land a waste;

your cities will be ruins

without inhabitant.

Because of this put on sackcloth,

lament and wail:

“The fierce anger of the Lord

has not turned away from us.”

On that day, says the Lord, courage shall fail the king and the officials; the priests shall be appalled and the prophets astounded.

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Lift up a signal toward Zion,

bring yourselves to safety; you must not remain standing,

for I am bringing evil from the north,

and a great destruction.

A lion has gone up from his thicket,

and a destroyer of nations has set out.

He has gone out from his place to make your land as a horror,

your cities will go to ruin without inhabitant.

Because of this gird yourselves with sackcloth, lament and wail,

for the burning anger of Yahweh has not turned back from us.

And then on that day,” declares Yahweh,

“the heart of the king and the heart of the officials will be destroyed,

and the priests will be appalled,

and the prophets will be astonished.”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Warn everyone to go to Zion!

Run for safety! Do not wait!

I am bringing trouble from the north.

Everything will be totally destroyed.”

Lions have come out of their den.

Those who destroy nations have begun to march out.

They have left their place

to destroy your land completely.

Your towns will be broken to pieces.

No one will live in them.

So put on black clothes.

Sob and cry over what has happened.

The Lord hasn’t turned

his burning anger away from us.

“A dark day is coming,” announces the Lord.

“The king and his officials will lose hope.

The priests will be shocked.

And the prophets will be terrified.”

Jeremiah 4:6–9 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Lift up a standard toward Zion!

Seek refuge, do not stand still,

For I am bringing evil from the north,

And great destruction.

“A lion has gone up from his thicket,

And a destroyer of nations has set out;

He has gone out from his place

To make your land a waste.

Your cities will be ruins

Without inhabitant.

“For this, put on sackcloth,

Lament and wail;

For the fierce anger of the Lord

Has not turned back from us.”

“It shall come about in that day,” declares the Lord, “that the heart of the king and the heart of the princes will fail; and the priests will be appalled and the prophets will be astounded.”
