Jeremiah 10:12–16 — The New International Version (NIV)

12 But God made the earth by his power;

he founded the world by his wisdom

and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.

13 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar;

he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.

He sends lightning with the rain

and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

14 Everyone is senseless and without knowledge;

every goldsmith is shamed by his idols.

The images he makes are a fraud;

they have no breath in them.

15 They are worthless, the objects of mockery;

when their judgment comes, they will perish.

16 He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these,

for he is the Maker of all things,

including Israel, the people of his inheritance—

the Lord Almighty is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — English Standard Version (ESV)

12 It is he who made the earth by his power,

who established the world by his wisdom,

and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.

13 When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,

and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth.

He makes lightning for the rain,

and he brings forth the wind from his storehouses.

14 Every man is stupid and without knowledge;

every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,

for his images are false,

and there is no breath in them.

15 They are worthless, a work of delusion;

at the time of their punishment they shall perish.

16 Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob,

for he is the one who formed all things,

and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance;

the Lord of hosts is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

12 He hath made the earth by his power,

He hath established the world by his wisdom,

And hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens,

And he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth;

He maketh lightnings with rain,

And bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

14 Every man is brutish in his knowledge:

Every founder is confounded by the graven image:

For his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

15 They are vanity, and the work of errors:

In the time of their visitation they shall perish.

16 The portion of Jacob is not like them:

For he is the former of all things;

And Israel is the rod of his inheritance:

The Lord of hosts is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — New Living Translation (NLT)

12 But the Lord made the earth by his power,

and he preserves it by his wisdom.

With his own understanding

he stretched out the heavens.

13 When he speaks in the thunder,

the heavens roar with rain.

He causes the clouds to rise over the earth.

He sends the lightning with the rain

and releases the wind from his storehouses.

14 The whole human race is foolish and has no knowledge!

The craftsmen are disgraced by the idols they make,

for their carefully shaped works are a fraud.

These idols have no breath or power.

15 Idols are worthless; they are ridiculous lies!

On the day of reckoning they will all be destroyed.

16 But the God of Israel is no idol!

He is the Creator of everything that exists,

including Israel, his own special possession.

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name!

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — New Century Version (NCV)

12 God made the earth by his power.

He used his wisdom to build the world

and his understanding to stretch out the skies.

13 When he thunders, the waters in the skies roar.

He makes clouds rise in the sky all over the earth.

He sends lightning with the rain

and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

14 People are so stupid and know so little.

Goldsmiths are made ashamed by their idols,

because those statues are only false gods.

They have no breath in them.

15 They are worth nothing; people make fun of them.

When they are judged, they will be destroyed.

16 But God, who is Jacob’s Portion, is not like the idols.

He made everything,

and he chose Israel to be his special people.

The Lord All-Powerful is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — American Standard Version (ASV)

12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding hath he stretched out the heavens. 13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries. 14 Every man is become brutish and is without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his graven image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. 15 They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. 16 The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Jehovah of hosts is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his understanding. 13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the end of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries. 14 Every man is become brutish, bereft of knowledge; every founder is put to shame by the graven image, for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. 15 They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. 16 The portion of Jacob is not like them; for it is he that hath formed all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: Jehovah of hosts is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

12 The Lord made the earth by his power.

He set up the world by his skill.

He stretched out the world by his understanding.

13 He speaks, and the water in the sky produces a storm.

He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.

He makes lightning flash with the rain.

He brings wind out of his storehouses.

14 Everyone is stupid and ignorant.

Metalsmiths are put to shame by their idols.

Their statues are false ⸤gods⸥.

They can’t breathe.

15 They are worthless jokes.

When they are punished, they disappear.

16 Jacob’s God isn’t like them.

He made everything,

and Israel is the tribe that belongs to him.

His name is the Lord of Armies.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

12 He made the earth by His power,

established the world by His wisdom,

and spread out the heavens by His understanding.

13 When He thunders,

the waters in the heavens are in turmoil,

and He causes the clouds to rise

from the ends of the earth.

He makes lightning for the rain

and brings the wind from His storehouses.

14 Everyone is stupid and ignorant.

Every goldsmith is put to shame

by his carved image,

for his cast images are a lie;

there is no breath in them.

15 They are worthless, a work to be mocked.

At the time of their punishment

they will be destroyed.

16 Jacob’s Portion is not like these

because He is the One who formed all things.

Israel is the tribe of His inheritance;

Yahweh of Hosts is His name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

12 It is he who made the earth by his power,

who established the world by his wisdom,

and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.

13 When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,

and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth.

15 They are worthless, a work of delusion;

at the time of their punishment they shall perish.

16 Not like these is the Lord, the portion of Jacob,

for he is the one who formed all things,

and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance;

the Lord of hosts is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

12 He is the maker of the earth by his power,

who created the world by his wisdom,

and by his understanding he stretched out heaven.

13 When he utters his voice there is a noise of water in the heavens,

and he causes the mist to rise from the ends of the earth.

He makes lightning for the rain,

and he causes the wind to go out from his storehouses.

14 Everyone is stupid, without knowledge,

every goldsmith is ashamed by his divine image,

for his cast image is an illusion,

and there is no breath in them.

15 They are vanity, a work of mockery,

at the time of their punishment, they will perish.

16 The portion of Jacob is not like these,

for he is the creator of everything,

and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance,

Yahweh of hosts is his name.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

12 But God used his power to make the earth.

His wisdom set the world in place.

His understanding spread the heavens out.

13 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar.

He makes clouds rise from one end of the earth to the other.

He sends lightning along with the rain.

He brings the wind out from his storerooms.

14 No one has any sense. No one knows anything at all.

Everyone who works with gold is put to shame by his wooden gods.

The metal gods he worships are fakes.

They can’t even breathe.

15 They are worthless. People make fun of them.

When the Lord judges them, they will be destroyed.

16 The God of Jacob is not like them.

He gives his people everything they need.

He made everything that exists.

And that includes Israel.

It’s the nation that belongs to him.

His name is The Lord Who Rules Over All.

Jeremiah 10:12–16 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

12 It is He who made the earth by His power,

Who established the world by His wisdom;

And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.

13 When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,

And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth;

He makes lightning for the rain,

And brings out the wind from His storehouses.

14 Every man is stupid, devoid of knowledge;

Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols;

For his molten images are deceitful,

And there is no breath in them.

15 They are worthless, a work of mockery;

In the time of their punishment they will perish.

16 The portion of Jacob is not like these;

For the Maker of all is He,

And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance;

The Lord of hosts is His name.
