Isaiah 57:16–19 — The New International Version (NIV)

16 I will not accuse them forever,

nor will I always be angry,

for then they would faint away because of me—

the very people I have created.

17 I was enraged by their sinful greed;

I punished them, and hid my face in anger,

yet they kept on in their willful ways.

18 I have seen their ways, but I will heal them;

I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners,

19 creating praise on their lips.

Peace, peace, to those far and near,”

says the Lord. “And I will heal them.”

Isaiah 57:16–19 — English Standard Version (ESV)

16 For I will not contend forever,

nor will I always be angry;

for the spirit would grow faint before me,

and the breath of life that I made.

17 Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry,

I struck him; I hid my face and was angry,

but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart.

18 I have seen his ways, but I will heal him;

I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners,

19 creating the fruit of the lips.

Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the Lord,

“and I will heal him.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

16 For I will not contend for ever,

Neither will I be always wroth:

For the spirit should fail before me,

And the souls which I have made.

17 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him:

I hid me, and was wroth,

And he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.

18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him:

I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

19 I create the fruit of the lips;

Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord;

And I will heal him.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — New Living Translation (NLT)

16 For I will not fight against you forever;

I will not always be angry.

If I were, all people would pass away—

all the souls I have made.

17 I was angry,

so I punished these greedy people.

I withdrew from them,

but they kept going on their own stubborn way.

18 I have seen what they do,

but I will heal them anyway!

I will lead them.

I will comfort those who mourn,

19 bringing words of praise to their lips.

May they have abundant peace, both near and far,”

says the Lord, who heals them.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — New Century Version (NCV)

16 I will not accuse forever,

nor will I always be angry,

because then human life would grow weak.

Human beings, whom I created, would die.

17 I was angry because they were dishonest in order to make money.

I punished them and turned away from them in anger,

but they continued to do evil.

18 I have seen what they have done, but I will heal them.

I will guide them and comfort them and those who felt sad for them.

They will all praise me.

19 I will give peace, real peace, to those far and near,

and I will heal them,” says the Lord.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — American Standard Version (ASV)

16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls that I have made. 17 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hid my face and was wroth; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart. 18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. 19 I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith Jehovah; and I will heal him.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

17 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on backslidingly in the way of his heart. 18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him; and I will lead him, and will restore comforts unto him and to those of his that mourn. 19 I create the fruit of the lips: peace, peace to him that is afar off, and to him that is nigh, saith Jehovah; and I will heal him.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

16 I will not accuse you forever.

I will not be angry with you forever.

Otherwise, the spirits, the lives of those I’ve made,

would grow faint in my presence.

17 I was angry because of their sinful greed,

so I punished them, hid ⸤from them⸥, and remained angry.

But they continued to be sinful.

18 I’ve seen their ⸤sinful⸥ ways, but I’ll heal them.

I’ll guide them and give them rest.

I’ll comfort them and their mourners.

19 I’ll create praise on their lips:

“Perfect peace to those both far and near.”

“I’ll heal them,” says the Lord

Isaiah 57:16–19 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

16 For I will not accuse you forever,

and I will not always be angry;

for then the spirit would grow weak before Me,

even the breath of man, which I have made.

17 Because of his sinful greed I was angry,

so I struck him; I was angry and hid;

but he went on turning back to the desires of his heart.

18 I have seen his ways, but I will heal him;

I will lead him and restore comfort

to him and his mourners,

19 creating words of praise.”

The Lord says,

“Peace, peace to the one who is far or near,

and I will heal him.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

16 For I will not continually accuse,

nor will I always be angry;

for then the spirits would grow faint before me,

even the souls that I have made.

17 Because of their wicked covetousness I was angry;

I struck them, I hid and was angry;

but they kept turning back to their own ways.

18 I have seen their ways, but I will heal them;

I will lead them and repay them with comfort,

creating for their mourners the fruit of the lips.

19 Peace, peace, to the far and the near, says the Lord;

and I will heal them.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

16 For I will not attack forever,

and I will not be angry forever,

for the spirit will grow faint before me,

and the breaths that I myself I have made.

17 I was angry because of his sin of gain, and I struck him;

I hid and I was angry, but he walked apostate, in the ways of his heart.

18 I have seen his ways, but I will heal him;

and I will lead him and give him and his mourners comfort as a recompense,

19 creating fruit of lips.

Peace, peace to the far and near,” says Yahweh, “and I will heal him.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

16 I will not find fault with my people forever.

I will not always be angry with them.

If I were, I would cause their spirits to grow weak.

The very breath of life would go out of the people I created.

17 I was very angry with them.

They always longed for more and more of everything.

So I punished them for that sin.

I turned my face away from them because I was angry.

But they kept on wanting their own way.

18 I have seen what they have done.

But I will heal them.

I will guide them.

And I will comfort them just as I did before.

19 Then the people of Israel who are sorry for their sins will praise me.

I will give perfect peace to those who are far away and those who are near.

And I will heal them,” says the Lord.

Isaiah 57:16–19 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

16 “For I will not contend forever,

Nor will I always be angry;

For the spirit would grow faint before Me,

And the breath of those whom I have made.

17 “Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry and struck him;

I hid My face and was angry,

And he went on turning away, in the way of his heart.

18 “I have seen his ways, but I will heal him;

I will lead him and restore comfort to him and to his mourners,

19 Creating the praise of the lips.

Peace, peace to him who is far and to him who is near,”

Says the Lord, “and I will heal him.”
