Ezekiel 28:3–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

Are you wiser than Daniel?

Is no secret hidden from you?

By your wisdom and understanding

you have gained wealth for yourself

and amassed gold and silver

in your treasuries.

By your great skill in trading

you have increased your wealth,

and because of your wealth

your heart has grown proud.

“ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘Because you think you are wise,

as wise as a god,

I am going to bring foreigners against you,

the most ruthless of nations;

they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom

and pierce your shining splendor.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — English Standard Version (ESV)

you are indeed wiser than Daniel;

no secret is hidden from you;

by your wisdom and your understanding

you have made wealth for yourself,

and have gathered gold and silver

into your treasuries;

by your great wisdom in your trade

you have increased your wealth,

and your heart has become proud in your wealth—

therefore thus says the Lord God:

Because you make your heart

like the heart of a god,

therefore, behold, I will bring foreigners upon you,

the most ruthless of the nations;

and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom

and defile your splendor.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee: With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures: By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches: Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God; Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

You regard yourself as wiser than Daniel

and think no secret is hidden from you.

With your wisdom and understanding you have amassed great wealth—

gold and silver for your treasuries.

Yes, your wisdom has made you very rich,

and your riches have made you very proud.

“Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

Because you think you are as wise as a god,

I will now bring against you a foreign army,

the terror of the nations.

They will draw their swords against your marvelous wisdom

and defile your splendor!

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

You think you are wiser than Daniel.

You think you can find out all secrets.

Through your wisdom and understanding

you have made yourself rich.

You have gained gold and silver

and have saved it in your storerooms.

Through your great skill in trading,

you have made your riches grow.

You are too proud

because of your riches.

“ ‘So this is what the Lord God says:

You think you are wise

like a god,

but I will bring foreign people against you,

the cruelest nation.

They will pull out their swords

and destroy all that your wisdom has built,

and they will dishonor your greatness.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that is hidden from thee; by thy wisdom and by thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures; by thy great wisdom and by thy traffic hast thou increased thy riches, and thy heart is lifted up because of thy riches;— therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast set thy heart as the heart of God, therefore, behold, I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

behold, thou art wiser than Daniel! nothing secret is obscure for thee; by thy wisdom and by thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures; by thy great wisdom thou hast by thy traffic increased thy riches, and thy heart is lifted up because of thy riches. Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast set thy heart as the heart of God, therefore behold, I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall tarnish thy brightness.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

You think that you are wiser than Daniel

and that no secret can be hidden from you.

Because you are wise and understanding,

you’ve made yourself rich.

You saved gold and silver in your treasuries.

Because of your great skill in trading,

you’ve made yourself very wealthy.

You have become arrogant because of your wealth.

“ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says:

You think you are wise like God.

That is why I am going to bring foreigners against you,

the most ruthless foreigners among the nations.

They will draw their swords against your fine wisdom

and dishonor your greatness.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Yes, you are wiser than Daniel;

no secret is hidden from you!

By your wisdom and understanding

you have acquired wealth for yourself.

You have acquired gold and silver

for your treasuries.

By your great skill in trading

you have increased your wealth,

but your heart has become proud

because of your wealth.”

Therefore this is what the Lord God says:

Because you regard your heart as that of a god,

I am about to bring strangers against you,

ruthless men from the nations.

They will draw their swords

against your magnificent wisdom

and will defile your splendor.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

You are indeed wiser than Daniel;

no secret is hidden from you;

by your wisdom and your understanding

you have amassed wealth for yourself,

and have gathered gold and silver

into your treasuries.

By your great wisdom in trade

you have increased your wealth,

and your heart has become proud in your wealth.

Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Because you compare your mind

with the mind of a god,

therefore, I will bring strangers against you,

the most terrible of the nations;

they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom

and defile your splendor.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Look, are you wiser than Daniel,

so that no secret is hidden from you?

By your wisdom and by your understanding

you have gained for yourself wealth,

and you have amassed gold and silver

in your treasuries.

By the abundance of your wisdom in your trading

you have increased your wealth

and your heart was proud in your wealth.” ’ ”

Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh:

“Because of your regarding your mind

like the mind of a god,

therefore look! I am bringing strangers over you,

the most ruthless of the peoples,

and they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom,

and they will defile your splendor.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Are you wiser than Daniel?

Isn’t even one secret hidden from you?

You are wise and understanding.

So you have become very wealthy.

You have piled up gold and silver

among your treasures.

You have used your great skill in trading

to increase your wealth.

You are very rich.

So your heart has become proud.” ’ ”

The Lord and King says,

“You think you are wise.

In fact, you claim to be as wise as a god.

So I am going to bring strangers against you.

They will not show you any pity at all.

They will use their swords against your beauty and wisdom.

They will strike down your shining glory.

Ezekiel 28:3–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Behold, you are wiser than Daniel;

There is no secret that is a match for you.

“By your wisdom and understanding

You have acquired riches for yourself

And have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.

“By your great wisdom, by your trade

You have increased your riches

And your heart is lifted up because of your riches

Therefore thus says the Lord God,

Because you have made your heart

Like the heart of God,

Therefore, behold, I will bring strangers upon you,

The most ruthless of the nations.

And they will draw their swords

Against the beauty of your wisdom

And defile your splendor.
