Amos 4:11–13 — The New International Version (NIV)

11 “I overthrew some of you

as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

You were like a burning stick snatched from the fire,

yet you have not returned to me,”

declares the Lord.

12 “Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel,

and because I will do this to you, Israel,

prepare to meet your God.”

13 He who forms the mountains,

who creates the wind,

and who reveals his thoughts to mankind,

who turns dawn to darkness,

and treads on the heights of the earth—

the Lord God Almighty is his name.

Amos 4:11–13 — English Standard Version (ESV)

11 “I overthrew some of you,

as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,

and you were as a brand plucked out of the burning;

yet you did not return to me,”

declares the Lord.

12 “Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel;

because I will do this to you,

prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

13 For behold, he who forms the mountains and creates the wind,

and declares to man what is his thought,

who makes the morning darkness,

and treads on the heights of the earth—

the Lord, the God of hosts, is his name!

Amos 4:11–13 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

11 I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,

And ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning:

Yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.

12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel:

And because I will do this unto thee,

Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind,

And declareth unto man what is his thought,

That maketh the morning darkness,

And treadeth upon the high places of the earth,

The Lord, The God of hosts, is his name.

Amos 4:11–13 — New Living Translation (NLT)

11 “I destroyed some of your cities,

as I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

Those of you who survived

were like charred sticks pulled from a fire.

But still you would not return to me,”

says the Lord.

12 “Therefore, I will bring upon you all the disasters I have announced.

Prepare to meet your God in judgment, you people of Israel!”

13 For the Lord is the one who shaped the mountains,

stirs up the winds, and reveals his thoughts to mankind.

He turns the light of dawn into darkness

and treads on the heights of the earth.

The Lord God of Heaven’s Armies is his name!

Amos 4:11–13 — New Century Version (NCV)

11 “I destroyed some of you

as I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

You were like a burning stick pulled from a fire,

but still you did not come back to me,” says the Lord.

12 “So this is what I will do to you, Israel;

because I will do this to you,

get ready to meet your God, Israel.”

13 He is the one who makes the mountains

and creates the wind

and makes his thoughts known to people.

He changes the dawn into darkness

and walks over the mountains of the earth.

His name is the Lord God All-Powerful.

Amos 4:11–13 — American Standard Version (ASV)

11 I have overthrown cities among you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a brand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah.

12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel; and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. 13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought; that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth—Jehovah, the God of hosts, is his name.

Amos 4:11–13 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

11 I have overthrown among you, like God’s overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a brand plucked out of the burning; yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah. 12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. 13 For behold, he who formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, who maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, —Jehovah, the God of hosts, is his name.

Amos 4:11–13 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

11 I destroyed some of you as I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

You were like a burning log snatched from a fire.

And you still didn’t return to me, declares the Lord

12 This is what I will do to you, Israel.

Prepare to meet your God.

This is what I will do to you, Israel!

13 God forms the mountains and creates the wind.

He reveals his thoughts to humans.

He makes dawn and dusk ⸤appear⸥.

He walks on the high places of the earth.

His name is the Lord God of Armies.

Amos 4:11–13 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

11 I overthrew some of you

as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,

and you were like a burning stick

snatched from a fire,

yet you did not return to Me —

this is the Lord’s declaration.

12 Therefore, Israel, that is what I will do to you,

and since I will do that to you,

Israel, prepare to meet your God!

13 He is here:

the One who forms the mountains,

creates the wind,

and reveals His thoughts to man,

the One who makes the dawn out of darkness

and strides on the heights of the earth.

Yahweh, the God of Hosts, is His name.

Amos 4:11–13 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

11 I overthrew some of you,

as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,

and you were like a brand snatched from the fire;

yet you did not return to me,

says the Lord.

12 Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel;

because I will do this to you,

prepare to meet your God, O Israel!

13 For lo, the one who forms the mountains, creates the wind,

reveals his thoughts to mortals,

makes the morning darkness,

and treads on the heights of the earth—

the Lord, the God of hosts, is his name!

Amos 4:11–13 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

11 “I overthrew some of you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a stick snatched from the fire, and yet you did not return to me,” is the declaration of Yahweh. 12 “Therefore, thus I will do to you, O Israel. Because I will do this to you, O Israel, prepare to meet your God! 13 Yes, here is the one who forms the mountains, and the one who creates the wind, and the one who reveals to humankind what his thoughts are, the one who turns dawn into darkness, and the one who treads on the heights of the earth; Yahweh, the God of hosts, is his name!”

Amos 4:11–13 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

11 “I destroyed some of you,

just as I did Sodom and Gomorrah.

You were like a burning stick that was pulled out of the fire.

In spite of that, you still have not returned to me,”

announces the Lord.

12 “People of Israel, I will punish you.

Because I will do that to you,

prepare to meet your God!”

13 The Lord forms the mountains.

He creates the wind.

He makes his thoughts known to human beings.

He turns sunrise into darkness.

He rules over the highest places on earth.

His name is The Lord God Who Rules Over All.

Amos 4:11–13 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

11 “I overthrew you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,

And you were like a firebrand snatched from a blaze;

Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.

12 Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel;

Because I will do this to you,

Prepare to meet your God, O Israel.”

13 For behold, He who forms mountains and creates the wind

And declares to man what are His thoughts,

He who makes dawn into darkness

And treads on the high places of the earth,

The Lord God of hosts is His name.
