Lamentations 4:11–12

11 The Lord gave full vent to his wrath;

he poured out his hot anger,

and he kindled a fire in Zion

that consumed its foundations.

12 The kings of the earth did not believe,

nor any of the inhabitants of the world,

that foe or enemy could enter

the gates of Jerusalem.

11 The Lord hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger,

And hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed

That the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

11 But now the anger of the Lord is satisfied.

His fierce anger has been poured out.

He started a fire in Jerusalem

that burned the city to its foundations.

12 Not a king in all the earth—

no one in all the world—

would have believed that an enemy

could march through the gates of Jerusalem.

11 The Lord has fulfilled His fury,

He has poured out His fierce anger.

He kindled a fire in Zion,

And it has devoured its foundations.

12 The kings of the earth,

And all inhabitants of the world,

Would not have believed

That the adversary and the enemy

Could enter the gates of Jerusalem—

11 The Lord turned loose all of his anger;

he poured out his strong anger.

He set fire to Jerusalem,

burning it down to the foundations.

12 Kings of the earth and people of the world

could not believe

that enemies and foes

could enter the gates of Jerusalem.

11 Jehovah hath accomplished his wrath, he hath poured out his fierce anger;

And he hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath devoured the foundations thereof.

12 The kings of the earth believed not, neither all the inhabitants of the world,

That the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

11 Jehovah hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath consumed the foundations thereof. 12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

11 The Lord’s fury has accomplished his purpose. 

He unleashed his burning anger. 

He started a fire in Zion that even burned its foundations. 

12 Neither the kings of the earth nor anyone living on earth could believe 

that enemies or invaders would ever get through the gates of Jerusalem. 

11 The Lord has exhausted His wrath,

poured out His burning anger;

He has ignited a fire in Zion,

and it has consumed her foundations.

12 The kings of the earth

and all the world’s inhabitants did not believe

that an enemy or adversary

could enter Jerusalem’s gates.

it consumed her foundations.

12 The kings of the earth did not believe,

and all the inhabitants of the world,

that a foe and an enemy could enter

into the gates of Jerusalem.

11 The Lord has become very angry.

He has poured out his burning anger.

He started a fire in Zion.

It burned up the very foundations.

12 The kings of the earth couldn’t believe what was happening.

Neither could any of the world’s people.

Enemies actually attacked and entered

the gates of Jerusalem.

11 The Lord has accomplished His wrath,

He has poured out His fierce anger;

And He has kindled a fire in Zion

Which has consumed its foundations.

12 The kings of the earth did not believe,

Nor did any of the inhabitants of the world,

That the adversary and the enemy

Could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
