17 The light of Israel will become a fire,

and his Holy One a flame,

and it will burn and devour

his thorns and briers in one day.

18 The glory of his forest and of his fruitful land

the Lord will destroy, both soul and body,

and it will be as when a sick man wastes away.

17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire,

And his Holy One for a flame:

And it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field,

Both soul and body:

And they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.

17 The Lord, the Light of Israel, will be a fire;

the Holy One will be a flame.

He will devour the thorns and briers with fire,

burning up the enemy in a single night.

18 The Lord will consume Assyria’s glory

like a fire consumes a forest in a fruitful land;

it will waste away like sick people in a plague.

17 So the Light of Israel will be for a fire,

And his Holy One for a flame;

It will burn and devour

His thorns and his briers in one day.

18 And it will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field,

Both soul and body;

And they will be as when a sick man wastes away.

17 God, the Light of Israel, will be like a fire;

the Holy One will be like a flame.

He will be like a fire

that suddenly burns the weeds and thorns.

18 The fire burns away the great trees and rich farmlands,

destroying everything.

It will be like a sick person who wastes away.

17 And the light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day. 18 And he will consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and it shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth.

17 Israel’s light will become a flame. 

Its Holy One will become a fire. 

He will burn up and devour the weeds and thornbushes in one day. 

18 The majestic forest and the orchard 

will destroy both body and soul. 

They will be like a sick person wasting away.

In one day it will burn up Assyria’s thorns and thistles.

18 He will completely destroy

the glory of its forests and orchards

as a sickness consumes a person.

17 The light of Israel will become a fire,

18 The glory of his forest and his fruitful land

the Lord will destroy, both soul and body,

and it will be as when an invalid wastes away.

17 And the light of Israel will become like a fire,

and his holy one like a flame,

and it will burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day.

18 And he will destroy the glory of his forest and orchard completely,

and it will be like the wasting away of one who is sick.

17 The Lord is the light of Israel.

He will become a fire.

Israel’s Holy One will become a flame.

In a single day he will burn up all of Assyria’s bushes.

He will destroy all of their thorns.

18 He will completely destroy the beauty

of their forests and rich farm lands.

The Assyrian army will be like a sick man

who becomes weaker and weaker.

17 And the light of Israel will become a fire and his Holy One a flame,

And it will burn and devour his thorns and his briars in a single day.

18 And He will destroy the glory of his forest and of his fruitful garden, both soul and body,

And it will be as when a sick man wastes away.
