Psalm 145^a

A psalm of praise. Of David.

¹I will exalt you,^w my God the King;^x

I will praise your name^y for ever and ever.

²Every day I will praise^z you

and extol your name^a for ever and ever.

³Great^b is the Lord and most worthy of praise;^c

his greatness no one can fathom.^d

⁴One generation^e commends your works to another;

they tell^f of your mighty acts.^g

⁵They speak of the glorious splendor^h of your majesty—

and I will meditate on your wonderful works.^bi

⁶They tell^j of the power of your awesome works—^k

and I will proclaim^l your great deeds.^m

⁷They celebrate your abundant goodnessⁿ

and joyfully sing^o of your righteousness.^p

⁸The Lord is gracious and compassionate,^q

slow to anger and rich in love.^r

⁹The Lord is good^s to all;

he has compassion^t on all he has made.

¹⁰All your works praise you,^u Lord;

your faithful people extol^v you.^w

¹¹They tell of the glory of your kingdom^x

and speak of your might,^y

¹²so that all people may know of your mighty acts^z

and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.^a

¹³Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,^b

and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy^c in all he promises^d

and faithful in all he does.^c

¹⁴The Lord upholds^e all who fall

and lifts up all^f who are bowed down.^g

¹⁵The eyes of all look to you,

and you give them their food^h at the proper time.

¹⁶You open your hand

and satisfy the desiresⁱ of every living thing.

¹⁷The Lord is righteous^j in all his ways

and faithful in all he does.^k

¹⁸The Lord is near^l to all who call on him,^m

to all who call on him in truth.

¹⁹He fulfills the desiresⁿ of those who fear him;^o

he hears their cry^p and saves them.^q

²⁰The Lord watches over^r all who love him,^s

but all the wicked he will destroy.^t

²¹My mouth will speak^u in praise of the Lord.

Let every creature^v praise his holy name^w

for ever and ever.

Psalm 146

¹Praise the Lord.^a

Praise the Lord,^x my soul.

²I will praise the Lord all my life;^y

I will sing praise^z to my God as long as I live.^a

³Do not put your trust in princes,^b

in human beings,^c who cannot save.

⁴When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;^d

on that very day their plans come to nothing.^e

⁵Blessed are those^f whose help^g is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the Lord their God.

⁶He is the Maker of heaven^h and earth,

the sea, and everything in them—

he remains faithfulⁱ forever.

⁷He upholds^j the cause of the oppressed^k

and gives food to the hungry.^l

The Lord sets prisoners free,^m

⁸the Lord gives sightⁿ to the blind,^o

the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,^p

the Lord loves the righteous.^q

⁹The Lord watches over the foreigner^r

and sustains the fatherless^s and the widow,^t

but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

¹⁰The Lord reigns^u forever,

your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 147

¹Praise the Lord.^a

How good it is to sing praises to our God,

how pleasant^v and fitting to praise him!^w

²The Lord builds up Jerusalem;^x

he gathers the exiles^y of Israel.

³He heals the brokenhearted^z

and binds up their wounds.^a

⁴He determines the number of the stars^b

and calls them each by name.

⁵Great is our Lord^c and mighty in power;^d

his understanding has no limit.^e

⁶The Lord sustains the humble^f

but casts the wicked^g to the ground.

⁷Sing to the Lord^h with grateful praise;ⁱ

make music^j to our God on the harp.^k

⁸He covers the sky with clouds;^l

he supplies the earth with rain^m

and makes grass growⁿ on the hills.

⁹He provides food^o for the cattle

and for the young ravens^p when they call.

¹⁰His pleasure is not in the strength^q of the horse,^r

nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;

¹¹the Lord delights^s in those who fear him,^t

who put their hope^u in his unfailing love.^v

¹²Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;^w

praise your God, Zion.

¹³He strengthens the bars of your gates^x

and blesses your people^y within you.

¹⁴He grants peace^z to your borders

and satisfies you^a with the finest of wheat.^b

¹⁵He sends his command^c to the earth;

his word runs^d swiftly.

¹⁶He spreads the snow^e like wool

and scatters the frost^f like ashes.

¹⁷He hurls down his hail^g like pebbles.

Who can withstand his icy blast?

¹⁸He sends his word^h and melts them;

he stirs up his breezes,ⁱ and the waters flow.

¹⁹He has revealed his word^j to Jacob,^k

his laws and decrees^l to Israel.

²⁰He has done this for no other nation;^m

they do not knowⁿ his laws.^b

Praise the Lord.^o

Psalm 148

¹Praise the Lord.^ap

Praise the Lord from the heavens;^q

praise him in the heights above.

²Praise him, all his angels;^r

praise him, all his heavenly hosts.^s

³Praise him, sun^t and moon;

praise him, all you shining stars.

⁴Praise him, you highest heavens^u

and you waters above the skies.^v

⁵Let them praise the name^w of the Lord,

for at his command^x they were created,

⁶and he established them for ever and ever—

he issued a decree^y that will never pass away.

⁷Praise the Lord^z from the earth,

you great sea creatures^a and all ocean depths,^b

⁸lightning and hail,^c snow and clouds,

stormy winds that do his bidding,^d

⁹you mountains and all hills,^e

fruit trees and all cedars,

¹⁰wild animals^f and all cattle,

small creatures and flying birds,

¹¹kings^g of the earth and all nations,

you princes and all rulers on earth,

¹²young men and women,

old men and children.

¹³Let them praise the name of the Lord,^h

for his name alone is exalted;

his splendorⁱ is above the earth and the heavens.^j

¹⁴And he has raised up for his people a horn,^bk

the praise^l of all his faithful servants,^m

of Israel, the people close to his heart.ⁿ

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 149

¹Praise the Lord.^ao

Sing to the Lord a new song,^p

his praise in the assembly^q of his faithful people.

²Let Israel rejoice^r in their Maker;^s

let the people of Zion be glad in their King.^t

³Let them praise his name with dancing^u

and make music to him with timbrel and harp.^v

⁴For the Lord takes delight^w in his people;

he crowns the humble with victory.^x

⁵Let his faithful people rejoice^y in this honor

and sing for joy on their beds.^z

⁶May the praise of God be in their mouths^a

and a double-edged^b sword in their hands,^c

⁷to inflict vengeance^d on the nations

and punishment^e on the peoples,

⁸to bind their kings with fetters,^f

their nobles with shackles of iron,^g

⁹to carry out the sentence written against them—^h

this is the glory of all his faithful people.ⁱ

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 150

¹Praise the Lord.^aj

Praise God in his sanctuary;^k

praise him in his mighty heavens.^l

²Praise him for his acts of power;^m

praise him for his surpassing greatness.ⁿ

³Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,^o

praise him with the harp and lyre,^p

⁴praise him with timbrel and dancing,^q

praise him with the strings^r and pipe,^s

⁵praise him with the clash of cymbals,^t

praise him with resounding cymbals.

⁶Let everything^u that has breath praise the Lord.
