Zelophehad’s Daughters

27:1–11pp—Nu 36:1–12

27 The daughters of Zelophehadc son of Hepher,d the son of Gilead,e the son of Makir,f the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward 2 and stood before Moses,g Eleazar the priest, the leadersh and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meetingi and said, 3 “Our father died in the wilderness.j He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord,k but he died for his own sin and left no sons.l 4 Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”

5 So Moses brought their casem before the Lord,n 6 and the Lord said to him, 7 “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritanceo among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.p

8 “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of lawq for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’ ”

Joshua to Succeed Moses

12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountainr in the Abarim Ranges and see the landt I have given the Israelites.u 13 After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people,v as your brother Aaronw was, 14 for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin,x both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holyy before their eyes.” (These were the waters of Meribahz Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.)

15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things,a appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”b

18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,a c and lay your hand on him.d 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission hime in their presence.f 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.g 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiringh of the Urimi before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him,j as the Lord instructed through Moses.

Daily Offerings

28 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Give this command to the Israelites and say to them: ‘Make sure that you present to me at the appointed timek my foodl offerings, as an aroma pleasing to me.’m 3 Say to them: ‘This is the food offering you are to present to the Lord: two lambs a year old without defect,n as a regular burnt offering each day.o 4 Offer one lamb in the morning and the other at twilight,p 5 together with a grain offeringq of a tenth of an ephaha of the finest flourr mixed with a quarter of a hinb of oils from pressed olives. 6 This is the regular burnt offeringt instituted at Mount Sinaiu as a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.v 7 The accompanying drink offeringw is to be a quarter of a hin of fermented drinkx with each lamb. Pour out the drink offering to the Lord at the sanctuary.y 8 Offer the second lamb at twilight,z along with the same kind of grain offering and drink offering that you offer in the morning.a This is a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.b

Sabbath Offerings

9 “ ‘On the Sabbathc day, make an offering of two lambs a year old without defect,d together with its drink offering and a grain offering of two-tenths of an ephahc e of the finest flour mixed with olive oil.f 10 This is the burnt offering for every Sabbath,g in addition to the regular burnt offeringh and its drink offering.

Monthly Offerings

11 “ ‘On the first of every month,i present to the Lord a burnt offering of two young bulls,j one ramk and seven male lambs a year old, all without defect.l 12 With each bull there is to be a grain offeringm of three-tenths of an ephahd n of the finest flour mixed with oil; with the ram, a grain offering of two-tenthso of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with oil; 13 and with each lamb, a grain offeringp of a tenthq of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with oil. This is for a burnt offering,r a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.s 14 With each bull there is to be a drink offeringt of half a hine of wine; with the ram, a third of a hinf; and with each lamb, a quarter of a hin. This is the monthly burnt offering to be made at each new moonu during the year. 15 Besides the regular burnt offeringv with its drink offering, one male goatw is to be presented to the Lord as a sin offering.g x

The Passover

28:16–25pp—Ex 12:14–20; Lev 23:4–8; Dt 16:1–8

16 “ ‘On the fourteenth day of the first month the Lord’s Passovery is to be held. 17 On the fifteenth day of this month there is to be a festival; for seven daysz eat bread made without yeast.a 18 On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.b 19 Present to the Lord a food offeringc consisting of a burnt offering of two young bulls, one ram and seven male lambs a year old, all without defect.d 20 With each bull offer a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephahe of the finest flour mixed with oil; with the ram, two-tenths;f 21 and with each of the seven lambs, one-tenth.g 22 Include one male goat as a sin offeringh to make atonement for you.i 23 Offer these in addition to the regular morning burnt offering. 24 In this way present the food offering every day for seven days as an aroma pleasing to the Lord;j it is to be offered in addition to the regular burnt offering and its drink offering. 25 On the seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.

The Festival of Weeks

28:26–31pp—Lev 23:15–22; Dt 16:9–12

26 “ ‘On the day of firstfruits,k when you present to the Lord an offering of new grain during the Festival of Weeks,l hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.m 27 Present a burnt offering of two young bulls, one ram and seven male lambs a year old as an aroma pleasing to the Lord.n 28 With each bull there is to be a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with oil; with the ram, two-tenths;o 29 and with each of the seven lambs, one-tenth.p 30 Include one male goatq to make atonement for you. 31 Offer these together with their drink offerings, in addition to the regular burnt offeringr and its grain offering. Be sure the animals are without defect.

The Festival of Trumpets

29:1–6pp—Lev 23:23–25

29 “ ‘On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.s It is a day for you to sound the trumpets. 2 As an aroma pleasing to the Lord,t offer a burnt offeringu of one young bull, one ram and seven male lambs a year old,v all without defect.w 3 With the bull offer a grain offeringx of three-tenths of an ephaha of the finest flour mixed with olive oil; with the ram, two-tenthsb; 4 and with each of the seven lambs, one-tenth.c y 5 Include one male goatz as a sin offeringd to make atonement for you. 6 These are in addition to the monthlya and daily burnt offeringsb with their grain offeringsc and drink offeringsd as specified. They are food offerings presented to the Lord, a pleasing aroma.e

The Day of Atonement

29:7–11pp—Lev 16:2–34; 23:26–32

7 “ ‘On the tenth day of this seventh month hold a sacred assembly. You must deny yourselvese f and do no work.g 8 Present as an aroma pleasing to the Lord a burnt offering of one young bull, one ram and seven male lambs a year old, all without defect.h 9 With the bull offer a grain offeringi of three-tenths of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with oil; with the ram, two-tenths;j 10 and with each of the seven lambs, one-tenth.k 11 Include one male goatl as a sin offering, in addition to the sin offering for atonement and the regular burnt offeringm with its grain offering, and their drink offerings.n

The Festival of Tabernacles

29:12–39pp—Lev 23:33–43; Dt 16:13–17

12 “ ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventho month,p hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. Celebrate a festival to the Lord for seven days. 13 Present as an aroma pleasing to the Lordq a food offering consisting of a burnt offering of thirteen young bulls, two rams and fourteen male lambs a year old, all without defect.r 14 With each of the thirteen bulls offer a grain offerings of three-tenths of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with oil; with each of the two rams, two-tenths; 15 and with each of the fourteen lambs, one-tenth.t 16 Include one male goat as a sin offering,u in addition to the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and drink offering.v

17 “ ‘On the second dayw offer twelve young bulls, two rams and fourteen male lambs a year old, all without defect.x 18 With the bulls, rams and lambs, offer their grain offeringsy and drink offeringsz according to the number specified.a 19 Include one male goat as a sin offering,b in addition to the regular burnt offeringc with its grain offering, and their drink offerings.d

20 “ ‘On the third day offer eleven bulls, two rams and fourteen male lambs a year old, all without defect.e 21 With the bulls, rams and lambs, offer their grain offerings and drink offerings according to the number specified.f 22 Include one male goat as a sin offering, in addition to the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and drink offering.
