Joshua 24:19–25
19 Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the Lord. He is a holy God;u he is a jealous God.v He will not forgivew your rebellionx and your sins. 20 If you forsake the Lordy and serve foreign gods, he will turnz and bring disastera on you and make an end of you,b after he has been good to you.”
21 But the people said to Joshua, “No! We will serve the Lord.”
22 Then Joshua said, “You are witnessesc against yourselves that you have chosend to serve the Lord.”
“Yes, we are witnesses,e” they replied.
23 “Now then,” said Joshua, “throw away the foreign godsf that are among you and yield your heartsg to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
24 And the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God and obey him.”h
25 On that day Joshua made a covenanti for the people, and there at Shechemj he reaffirmed for them decrees and laws.k

23 “All right then,” Joshua said, “destroy the idols among you, and turn your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
24 The people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God. We will obey him alone.”
25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day at Shechem, committing them to follow the decrees and regulations of the Lord.
