Isaiah 59:3–6 — English Standard Version (ESV)

For your hands are defiled with blood

and your fingers with iniquity;

your lips have spoken lies;

your tongue mutters wickedness.

No one enters suit justly;

no one goes to law honestly;

they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies,

they conceive mischief and give birth to iniquity.

They hatch adders’ eggs;

they weave the spider’s web;

he who eats their eggs dies,

and from one that is crushed a viper is hatched.

Their webs will not serve as clothing;

men will not cover themselves with what they make.

Their works are works of iniquity,

and deeds of violence are in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

For your hands are defiled with blood,

And your fingers with iniquity;

Your lips have spoken lies,

Your tongue hath muttered perverseness.

None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth:

They trust in vanity, and speak lies;

They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

They hatch cockatrice’ eggs,

And weave the spider’s web:

He that eateth of their eggs dieth,

And that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.

Their webs shall not become garments,

Neither shall they cover themselves with their works:

Their works are works of iniquity,

And the act of violence is in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Your hands are the hands of murderers,

and your fingers are filthy with sin.

Your lips are full of lies,

and your mouth spews corruption.

No one cares about being fair and honest.

The people’s lawsuits are based on lies.

They conceive evil deeds

and then give birth to sin.

They hatch deadly snakes

and weave spiders’ webs.

Whoever eats their eggs will die;

whoever cracks them will hatch a viper.

Their webs can’t be made into clothing,

and nothing they do is productive.

All their activity is filled with sin,

and violence is their trademark.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

For your hands are defiled with blood,

And your fingers with iniquity;

Your lips have spoken lies,

Your tongue has muttered perversity.

No one calls for justice,

Nor does any plead for truth.

They trust in empty words and speak lies;

They conceive evil and bring forth iniquity.

They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s web;

He who eats of their eggs dies,

And from that which is crushed a viper breaks out.

Their webs will not become garments,

Nor will they cover themselves with their works;

Their works are works of iniquity,

And the act of violence is in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — New Century Version (NCV)

With your hands you have killed others,

and with your fingers you have done wrong.

With your lips you have lied,

and with your tongue you say evil things.

People take each other to court unfairly,

and no one tells the truth in arguing his case.

They accuse each other falsely and tell lies.

They cause trouble and create more evil.

They hatch evil like eggs from poisonous snakes.

If you eat one of those eggs, you will die,

and if you break one open, a poisonous snake comes out.

People tell lies as they would spin a spider’s web.

The webs they make cannot be used for clothes;

you can’t cover yourself with those webs.

The things they do are evil,

and they use their hands to hurt others.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — American Standard Version (ASV)

For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue muttereth wickedness. None sueth in righteousness, and none pleadeth in truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. They hatch adders’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth; and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

For your hands are stained with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips speak lies, your tongue muttereth unrighteousness: none calleth for justice, none pleadeth in truthfulness. They trust in vanity, and speak falsehood; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. They hatch serpents’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works; their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Your hands are stained with blood,

and your fingers are stained with sin.

You speak lies,

and you mutter wicked things.

No one calls for justice,

and no one pleads his case truthfully.

People trust pointless arguments and speak lies.

They conceive trouble and give birth to evil.

They hatch viper eggs

and weave spiderwebs.

Those who eat their eggs will die.

When an egg is crushed, a poisonous snake is hatched.

Their webs can’t be used for clothes,

nor can they cover themselves with their works.

Their works are evil.

Their hands have committed acts of violence.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

For your hands are defiled with blood

and your fingers, with iniquity;

your lips have spoken lies,

and your tongues mutter injustice.

No one makes claims justly;

no one pleads honestly.

They trust in empty and worthless words;

they conceive trouble and give birth to iniquity.

They hatch viper’s eggs

and weave spider’s webs.

Whoever eats their eggs will die;

crack one open, and a viper is hatched.

Their webs cannot become clothing,

and they cannot cover themselves with their works.

Their works are sinful works,

and violent acts are in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

For your hands are defiled with blood,

and your fingers with iniquity;

your lips have spoken lies,

your tongue mutters wickedness.

No one brings suit justly,

no one goes to law honestly;

they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies,

conceiving mischief and begetting iniquity.

They hatch adders’ eggs,

and weave the spider’s web;

whoever eats their eggs dies,

and the crushed egg hatches out a viper.

Their webs cannot serve as clothing;

they cannot cover themselves with what they make.

Their works are works of iniquity,

and deeds of violence are in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

For your hands are defiled with blood,

and your fingers with iniquity.

Your lips have spoken lies,

your tongue speaks wickedness.

There is nobody who pleads with justice,

and there is nobody who judges with honesty.

They rely on nothing

and speak vanity.

They conceive trouble

and beget iniquity;

they hatch viper eggs,

and they weave a spider web.

One who eats their eggs dies,

and that which is pressed is hatched as a serpent.

Their webs cannot become clothing,

and they cannot cover themselves with their works.

Their works are works of iniquity,

and deeds of violence are in their hands.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Your hands and fingers are stained with blood.

You are guilty of committing murder.

Your mouth has told lies.

Your tongue says evil things.

People aren’t fair when they present their cases in court.

They aren’t honest when they state their case.

They depend on weak arguments. They tell lies.

They plan to make trouble.

Then they carry it out.

The plans they make are like the eggs of poisonous snakes.

Anyone who eats those eggs will die.

When one of them is broken, a snake comes out.

Those people weave their evil plans together like a spider’s web.

But the webs they make can’t be used as clothes.

They can’t cover themselves with what they make.

Their acts are evil.

They do things to harm others.

Isaiah 59:3–6 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

For your hands are defiled with blood

And your fingers with iniquity;

Your lips have spoken falsehood,

Your tongue mutters wickedness.

No one sues righteously and no one pleads honestly.

They trust in confusion and speak lies;

They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.

They hatch adders eggs and weave the spider’s web;

He who eats of their eggs dies,

And from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth.

Their webs will not become clothing,

Nor will they cover themselves with their works;

Their works are works of iniquity,

And an act of violence is in their hands.
