Amos 1:6–9

6 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of Gaza,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because they carried into exile a whole people

to deliver them up to Edom.

7 So I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza,

and it shall devour her strongholds.

8 I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod,

and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;

I will turn my hand against Ekron,

and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”

says the Lord God.

9 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of Tyre,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because they delivered up a whole people to Edom,

and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.

6 Thus saith the Lord;

For three transgressions of Gaza,

And for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof;

Because they carried away captive the whole captivity,

To deliver them up to Edom:

7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza,

Which shall devour the palaces thereof:

8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,

And him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon,

And I will turn mine hand against Ekron:

And the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.

9 Thus saith the Lord;

For three transgressions of Tyrus,

And for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof;

Because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom,

And remembered not the brotherly covenant:

6 This is what the Lord says:

“The people of Gaza have sinned again and again,

and I will not let them go unpunished!

They sent whole villages into exile,

selling them as slaves to Edom.

7 So I will send down fire on the walls of Gaza,

and all its fortresses will be destroyed.

8 I will slaughter the people of Ashdod

and destroy the king of Ashkelon.

Then I will turn to attack Ekron,

and the few Philistines still left will be killed,”

says the Sovereign Lord.

9 This is what the Lord says:

“The people of Tyre have sinned again and again,

and I will not let them go unpunished!

They broke their treaty of brotherhood with Israel,

selling whole villages as slaves to Edom.

6 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four,

I will not turn away its punishment,

Because they took captive the whole captivity

To deliver them up to Edom.

7 But I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza,

Which shall devour its palaces.

8 I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,

And the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;

I will turn My hand against Ekron,

And the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”

Says the Lord God.

9 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four,

I will not turn away its punishment,

Because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom,

And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.

6 This is what the Lord says:

“For the many crimes of Gaza,

I will punish them.

They sold all the people of one area

as slaves to Edom.

7 So I will send a fire on the walls of Gaza

that will destroy the city’s strong buildings.

8 I will destroy the king of the city of Ashdod,

as well as the leader of Ashkelon.

Then I will turn against the people of the city of Ekron,

and the last of the Philistines will die,” says the Lord God.

9 This is what the Lord says:

“For the many crimes of Tyre,

I will punish them.

They sold all the people of one area

as slaves to Edom,

and they forgot the agreement among relatives they had made with Israel.

6 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gaza, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole people, to deliver them up to Edom. 7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour the palaces thereof. 8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord Jehovah.

9 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole people to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant.

6 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gazah, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom. 7 And I will send a fire on the wall of Gazah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof. 8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord Jehovah. 9 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant.

6 This is what the Lord says: 

Because Gaza has committed three crimes, and now a fourth crime, 

I will not change my plans. 

The Philistines have taken all the people captive 

in order to hand them over to the Edomites. 

7 I will send a fire on the walls of Gaza 

and burn down its palaces. 

8 I will cut off those living in Ashdod 

and the one who holds the scepter in Ashkelon. 

I will turn my power against Ekron. 

The rest of the Philistines will die. 

The Almighty Lord has said this. 

9 This is what the Lord says: 

Because Tyre has committed three crimes, and now a fourth crime, 

I will not change my plans. 

The Tyrians have handed all the people over to the Edomites. 

The Tyrians didn’t remember their treaty with their relatives. 

6 The Lord says:

I will not relent from punishing Gaza

for three crimes, even four,

because they exiled a whole community,

handing them over to Edom.

7 Therefore, I will send fire against the walls of Gaza,

and it will consume its citadels.

8 I will cut off the ruler from Ashdod,

and the one who wields the scepter from Ashkelon.

I will also turn My hand against Ekron,

and the remainder of the Philistines will perish.

The Lord God has spoken.

9 The Lord says:

I will not relent from punishing Tyre

for three crimes, even four,

because they handed over

a whole community of exiles to Edom

and broke a treaty of brotherhood.

6 Thus says the Lord:

For three transgressions of Gaza,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because they carried into exile entire communities,

to hand them over to Edom.

7 So I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza,

and it shall devour its strongholds.

8 I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod

and the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;

I will turn my hand against Ekron,

and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,

says the Lord God.

9 Thus says the Lord:

For three transgressions of Tyre,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because they delivered entire communities over to Edom

and did not remember the covenant of kinship.

6 Thus says Yahweh: “For three transgressions of Gaza and for four I will not revoke the punishment, because they exiled a whole community, handing them over to Edom! 7 So I will send a fire against the wall of Gaza and it will devour its citadel fortresses. 8 And I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod and the one who takes hold of the scepter of Ashkelon. I will also turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish,” says the Lord Yahweh.

9 Thus says Yahweh: “For three transgressions of Tyre and for four I will not revoke the punishment, because they delivered up a whole community to Edom and they did not remember the covenant of brotherhood!

6 The Lord says,

“The people of Gaza have sinned again and again.

So I will punish them.

They captured whole communities.

They sold them to Edom.

7 So I will send fire to destroy the walls of Gaza.

It will burn up its forts.

8 I will cut off the king of Ashdod.

He holds the ruler’s rod in Ashkelon.

I will use my powerful hand against Ekron.

Every single Philistine will die,”

says the Lord and King.

9 The Lord says,

“The people of Tyre have sinned again and again.

So I will punish them.

They captured whole communities.

They sold them to Edom.

They did not honor the treaty

of friendship they had made.

6 Thus says the Lord,

“For three transgressions of Gaza and for four

I will not revoke its punishment,

Because they deported an entire population

To deliver it up to Edom.

7 “So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza

And it will consume her citadels.

8 “I will also cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,

And him who holds the scepter, from Ashkelon;

I will even unleash My power upon Ekron,

And the remnant of the Philistines will perish,”

Says the Lord God.

9 Thus says the Lord,

“For three transgressions of Tyre and for four

I will not revoke its punishment,

Because they delivered up an entire population to Edom

And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
