Psalm 94–96
1 The Lord is a God who avenges.c
O God who avenges, shine forth.d
2 Rise up,e Judgef of the earth;
pay backg to the proud what they deserve.
3 How long, Lord, will the wicked,
how long will the wicked be jubilant?h
4 They pour out arroganti words;
all the evildoers are full of boasting.j
5 They crush your people,k Lord;
they oppress your inheritance.l
6 They slay the widowm and the foreigner;
they murder the fatherless.n
7 They say, “The Lord does not see;o
the God of Jacobp takes no notice.”
8 Take notice, you senseless onesq among the people;
you fools, when will you become wise?
9 Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
Does he who formed the eye not see?r
10 Does he who discipliness nations not punish?
Does he who teachest mankind lack knowledge?
11 The Lord knows all human plans;u
he knows that they are futile.v
12 Blessed is the one you discipline,w Lord,
the one you teachx from your law;
13 you grant them relief from days of trouble,y
till a pitz is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not reject his people;a
he will never forsake his inheritance.
15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,b
and all the upright in heartc will follow it.
16 Who will rise upd for me against the wicked?
Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?e
17 Unless the Lord had given me help,f
I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.g
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,h”
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
19 When anxietyi was great within me,
your consolationj brought me joy.
20 Can a corrupt thronek be allied with you—
a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?l
21 The wicked band togetherm against the righteous
and condemn the innocentn to death.o
22 But the Lord has become my fortress,
and my God the rockp in whom I take refuge.q
23 He will repayr them for their sins
and destroys them for their wickedness;
the Lord our God will destroy them.
1 Come,t let us sing for joyu to the Lord;
let us shout aloudv to the Rockw of our salvation.
2 Let us come before himx with thanksgivingy
and extol him with musicz and song.
3 For the Lord is the great God,a
the great Kingb above all gods.c
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,d
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.e
6 Come, let us bow downf in worship,g
let us kneelh before the Lord our Maker;i
and we are the people of his pasture,j
the flock under his care.
Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8 “Do not harden your heartsk as you did at Meribah,a l
as you did that day at Massahb in the wilderness,m
9 where your ancestors testedn me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty yearso I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,p
and they have not known my ways.’q
11 So I declared on oathr in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”s
1 Sing to the Lordt a new song;u
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, praise his name;v
proclaim his salvationw day after day.
3 Declare his gloryx among the nations,
his marvelous deedsy among all peoples.
4 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;z
he is to be feareda above all gods.b
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols,c
but the Lord made the heavens.d
6 Splendor and majestye are before him;
strength and gloryf are in his sanctuary.
7 Ascribe to the Lord,g all you families of nations,h
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
bring an offeringi and come into his courts.j
9 Worship the Lordk in the splendor of hisa holiness;l
tremblem before him, all the earth.n
10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.o”
The world is firmly established,p it cannot be moved;q
he will judger the peoples with equity.s
11 Let the heavens rejoice,t let the earth be glad;u
let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
12 Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
let all the trees of the forestv sing for joy.w
13 Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes,
he comes to judgex the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousnessy
and the peoples in his faithfulness.z
