Psalm 49:5–7 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Why should I fear in times of trouble,

when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me,

those who trust in their wealth

or give to God the price of his life,

Psalm 49:5–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil,

When the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

They that trust in their wealth,

And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

None of them can by any means redeem his brother,

Nor give to God a ransom for him:

Psalm 49:5–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Why should I fear when trouble comes,

when enemies surround me?

They trust in their wealth

and boast of great riches.

Yet they cannot redeem themselves from death

by paying a ransom to God.

Psalm 49:5–7 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Nor give to God a ransom for him—

Psalm 49:5–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

No one can pay God for his own life,

Psalm 49:5–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Nor give to God a ransom for him;

Psalm 49:5–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

They depend upon their wealth, and boast themselves in the abundance of their riches. … None can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him,

Psalm 49:5–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

when slanderers surround me with evil?

They trust their riches

and brag about their abundant wealth.

No one can ever buy back another person

or pay God a ransom for his life.

Psalm 49:5–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Psalm 49:5–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Why should I fear in times of trouble,

when the iniquity of my persecutors surrounds me,

those who trust in their wealth

Truly, no ransom avails for one’s life,

there is no price one can give to God for it.

Psalm 49:5–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Why should I fear in times of calamity,

when iniquity surrounds me at my heels,

those who trust their wealth

and boast about the abundance of their riches?

Surely a man cannot redeem a brother.

He cannot give to God his ransom

Psalm 49:5–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Why should I be afraid when trouble comes?

Why should I fear when sinners are all around me?

They are the kind of people who want to take advantage of me.

They trust in their wealth.

They brag about how rich they are.

No man can pay for the life of anyone else.

No one can give God what that would cost.

Psalm 49:5–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Why should I fear in days of adversity,

When the iniquity of my foes surrounds me,

Even those who trust in their wealth

And boast in the abundance of their riches?

No man can by any means redeem his brother

Or give to God a ransom for him—
