Isaiah 22:8–11 — English Standard Version (ESV)

He has taken away the covering of Judah.

In that day you looked to the weapons of the House of the Forest, and you saw that the breaches of the city of David were many. You collected the waters of the lower pool, 10 and you counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall. 11 You made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to him who did it, or see him who planned it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

And he discovered the covering of Judah,

And thou didst look in that day to the armour of the house of the forest.

Ye have seen also the breaches of the city of David, that they are many:

And ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.

10 And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem,

And the houses have ye broken down to fortify the wall.

11 Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool:

But ye have not looked unto the maker thereof,

Neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Judah’s defenses have been stripped away.

You run to the armory for your weapons.

You inspect the breaks in the walls of Jerusalem.

You store up water in the lower pool.

10 You survey the houses and tear some down

for stone to strengthen the walls.

11 Between the city walls, you build a reservoir

for water from the old pool.

But you never ask for help from the One who did all this.

You never considered the One who planned this long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

He removed the protection of Judah.

You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest;

You also saw the damage to the city of David,

That it was great;

And you gathered together the waters of the lower pool.

10 You numbered the houses of Jerusalem,

And the houses you broke down

To fortify the wall.

11 You also made a reservoir between the two walls

For the water of the old pool.

But you did not look to its Maker,

Nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — New Century Version (NCV)

The walls protecting Judah will fall.

At that time the people of Jerusalem depended on

the weapons kept at the Palace of the Forest.

You saw that the walls of Jerusalem

had many cracks that needed repairing.

You stored up water in the lower pool.

10 You counted the houses of Jerusalem,

and you tore down houses to repair the walls with their stones.

11 You made a pool between the two walls

to save water from the old pool,

but you did not trust the God who made these things;

you did not respect the One who planned them long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — American Standard Version (ASV)

And he took away the covering of Judah; and thou didst look in that day to the armor in the house of the forest. And ye saw the breaches of the city of David, that they were many; and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool; 10 and ye numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and ye brake down the houses to fortify the wall; 11 ye made also a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But ye looked not unto him that had done this, neither had ye respect unto him that purposed it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

And he uncovereth the covering of Judah: and thou didst look in that day to the armour in the house of the forest; and ye have seen the breaches of the city of David, that they are many; and ye have gathered together the waters of the lower pool; 10 and ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and have broken down the houses to fortify the wall; 11 and ye have made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not had regard unto the maker thereof, neither have ye looked unto him that fashioned it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

On that day the Lord will remove the defenses of Judah.

You will look for weapons in the House of the Forest.

You will see how many places in David’s wall are broken.

You will store water in the Lower Pool.

10 You will count the houses in Jerusalem.

You will tear down those houses in order to fortify the walls.

11 You will build a reservoir between the two walls

to hold the water of the Old Pool.

You didn’t look to Jerusalem’s maker.

You didn’t see the one who formed it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

He removed the defenses of Judah.

On that day you looked to the weapons in the House of the Forest. You saw that there were many breaches in the walls of the city of David. You collected water from the lower pool. 10 You counted the houses of Jerusalem so that you could tear them down to fortify the wall. 11 You made a reservoir between the walls for the waters of the ancient pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or consider the One who created it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

He has taken away the covering of Judah.

On that day you looked to the weapons of the House of the Forest, and you saw that there were many breaches in the city of David, and you collected the waters of the lower pool. 10 You counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall. 11 You made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to him who did it, or have regard for him who planned it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

And he uncovered the covering of Judah.

And you looked, on that day, to the weapons of the House of the Forest,

and you saw that the breaches in the walls of the city of David were many,

and you gathered the waters of the lower pool.

10 And you counted the houses of Jerusalem,

and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall.

11 And you made a reservoir between the walls for the waters of the old pool,

but you did not look to its maker,

and you did not see the one who created it long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Judah wasn’t a safe place to live in anymore.

When all of that happened, you depended

on the weapons in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon.

You saw that the City of David

had many holes in its walls.

They needed to be repaired.

You stored up water

in the Lower Pool.

10 You picked out the weaker buildings in Jerusalem.

You tore them down and used their stones

to strengthen the city walls against attack.

11 You built a pool between the two walls.

You used it to save the water

that was running down from the Old Pool.

But you didn’t look to the One who made it all possible.

You didn’t pay any attention to the One

who planned everything long ago.

Isaiah 22:8–11 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

And He removed the defense of Judah.

In that day you depended on the weapons of the house of the forest,

And you saw that the breaches

In the wall of the city of David were many;

And you collected the waters of the lower pool.

10 Then you counted the houses of Jerusalem

And tore down houses to fortify the wall.

11 And you made a reservoir between the two walls

For the waters of the old pool.

But you did not depend on Him who made it,

Nor did you take into consideration Him who planned it long ago.
