Nahum 2:11–13
Where is the lions’ den now?
Where did they feed their cubs?
Where did all of the lions go?
In their den they had nothing to fear.
12 The lion killed enough for his cubs to eat.
He choked what he caught for his mate.
He filled his home with what he had killed.
He brought to his dens what he had caught.
13 “Nineveh, I am against you,”
announces the Lord who rules over all.
“I will burn up your chariots with fire.
Your young lions will be killed with swords.
I will leave you nothing on earth to catch.
The voices of your messengers
will no longer be heard.”
Nahum 2:11–13 — The New International Version (NIV)
11 Where now is the lions’ den,
the place where they fed their young,
where the lion and lioness went,
and the cubs, with nothing to fear?
12 The lion killed enough for his cubs
and strangled the prey for his mate,
filling his lairs with the kill
and his dens with the prey.
13 “I am against you,”
declares the Lord Almighty.
“I will burn up your chariots in smoke,
and the sword will devour your young lions.
I will leave you no prey on the earth.
The voices of your messengers
will no longer be heard.”
Nahum 2:11–13 — English Standard Version (ESV)
11 Where is the lions’ den,
the feeding place of the young lions,
where the lion and lioness went,
where his cubs were, with none to disturb?
12 The lion tore enough for his cubs
and strangled prey for his lionesses;
he filled his caves with prey
and his dens with torn flesh.
13 Behold, I am against you, declares the Lord of hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall no longer be heard.
Nahum 2:11–13 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
11 Where is the dwelling of the lions, And the feedingplace of the young lions, Where the lion, even the old lion, walked, And the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid? 12 The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, And strangled for his lionesses, And filled his holes with prey, And his dens with ravin. 13 Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord of hosts, And I will burn her chariots in the smoke, And the sword shall devour thy young lions: And I will cut off thy prey from the earth, And the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
Nahum 2:11–13 — New Living Translation (NLT)
11 Where now is that great Nineveh,
that den filled with young lions?
It was a place where people—like lions and their cubs—
walked freely and without fear.
12 The lion tore up meat for his cubs
and strangled prey for his mate.
He filled his den with prey,
his caverns with his plunder.
13 “I am your enemy!”
says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
“Your chariots will soon go up in smoke.
Your young men will be killed in battle.
Never again will you plunder conquered nations.
The voices of your proud messengers will be heard no more.”
Nahum 2:11–13 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
11 Where is the dwelling of the lions,
And the feeding place of the young lions,
Where the lion walked, the lioness and lion’s cub,
And no one made them afraid?
12 The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs,
Killed for his lionesses,
Filled his caves with prey,
And his dens with flesh.
13 “Behold, I am against you,” says the Lord of hosts, “I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall be heard no more.”
Nahum 2:11–13 — New Century Version (NCV)
11 Where is the lions’ den
and the place where they feed their young?
Where did the lion, lioness, and cubs go
without being afraid?
12 The lion killed enough for his cubs,
enough for his mate.
He filled his cave with the animals he caught;
he filled his den with meat he had killed.
13 “I am against you, Nineveh,”
says the Lord All-Powerful.
“I will burn up your chariots in smoke,
and the sword will kill your young lions.
I will stop you from hunting down others on the earth,
and your messengers’ voices
will no longer be heard.”
Nahum 2:11–13 — American Standard Version (ASV)
11 Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding-place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid? 12 The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with prey, and his dens with ravin. 13 Behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions; and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
Nahum 2:11–13 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
11 Where is now the den of the lions, and the feeding-place of the young lions, where the lion, the lioness, and the lion’s whelp walked, and none made them afraid? 12 The lion tore in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin. 13 Behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hosts: and I will burn her chariots into smoke; and the sword shall devour thy young lions, and I will cut off thy prey from the earth; and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
Nahum 2:11–13 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
11 Where is the lions’ den,
that feeding place for young lions?
Where are the lion, the lioness, and the lion cub who moved about
with no one to terrify them?
12 The lion tore its prey to pieces to feed its cubs.
It strangled ⸤the prey⸥ for its mates.
It used to fill its caves with torn carcasses
and its dens with torn flesh.
13 “I am against you, Nineveh,” declares the Lord of Armies.
“I will send your chariots up in smoke,
and a sword will kill your young lions.
I will remove your prey from the earth,
and no one will ever hear the voice of your messengers again.”
Nahum 2:11–13 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
11 Where is the lions’ lair,
or the feeding ground of the young lions,
where the lion and lioness prowled,
and the lion’s cub,
with nothing to frighten them away?
12 The lion mauled whatever its cubs needed
and strangled prey for its lionesses.
It filled up its dens with the kill,
and its lairs with mauled prey.
13 Beware, I am against you.
This is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.
I will make your chariots go up in smoke
and the sword will devour your young lions.
I will cut off your prey from the earth,
and the sound of your messengers
will never be heard again.
Nahum 2:11–13 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
11 What became of the lions’ den,
the cave of the young lions,
where the lion goes,
and the lion’s cubs, with no one to disturb them?
12 The lion has torn enough for his whelps
and strangled prey for his lionesses;
he has filled his caves with prey
and his dens with torn flesh.
13 See, I am against you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall be heard no more.
Nahum 2:11–13 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
11 Where now is the den of the lions
and the cave of the fierce lions?
There the lioness, the cub, and the lion once prowled,
and no one disturbed them.
12 The lion tore apart enough prey for his cubs,
he strangled prey for his lioness;
he filled his lair with prey
and his den with mangled carcass.
13 “Look! I am against you!” declares Yahweh of hosts.
“I will burn her chariots with fire;
the sword will devour fierce lions.
I will cut off your prey from the earth;
the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard.”
Nahum 2:11–13 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
11 Where is the den of the lions
And the feeding place of the young lions,
Where the lion, lioness and lion’s cub prowled,
With nothing to disturb them?

And filled his lairs with prey
And his dens with torn flesh.
