David Counts His Fighting Men
24The Lord’s anger burned against Israel. He stirred up David against them. He said, “Go! Count the men of Israel and Judah.”
2So the king spoke to Joab and the army commanders who were with him. He said, “Go all through the territories of the tribes of Israel. Go from Dan all the way to Beersheba. Count the fighting men. Then I’ll know how many there are.”

Once again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he caused David to harm them by taking a census. “Go and count the people of Israel and Judah,” the Lord told him.
So the king said to Joab and the commanders of the army, “Take a census of all the tribes of Israel—from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south—so I may know how many people there are.”
