11:3And I will grant my two witnesses authority9 to prophesy for 1,260 days, dressed in sackcloth. 11:4(These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.)1011:5If11 anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouths12 and completely consumes13 their enemies. If14 anyone wants to harm them, they must be killed this way. 11:6These two have the power15 to close up the sky so that it does not rain during the time16 they are prophesying. They17 have power18 to turn the waters to blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague whenever they want.
Footnotes
- 9 The word “authority” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. “Power” would be another alternative that could be supplied here.
- 10 This description is parenthetical in nature.
- 11 Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.
- 12 This is a collective singular in Greek.
- 13 See L&N 20.45 for the translation of κατεσθίω (katesthiō) as “to destroy utterly, to consume completely.”
- 14 Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.
- 15 Or “authority.”
- 16 Grk “the days.”
- 17 Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation. Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.
- 18 Or “authority.”

And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”
These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, this is how he is doomed to be killed. They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.

And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.” If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. They have power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.

NLTNew Living Translation
And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will be clothed in burlap and will prophesy during those 1,260 days.”
These two prophets are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of all the earth. If anyone tries to harm them, fire flashes from their mouths and consumes their enemies. This is how anyone who tries to harm them must die. They have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall for as long as they prophesy. And they have the power to turn the rivers and oceans into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.
