27:11If what is vowed is an unclean animal from which an offering must not be presented to the Lord, then he must stand the animal before the priest, 27:12and the priest will establish its conversion value,12 whether good or bad. According to the assessed conversion value of the priest, thus it will be. 27:13If, however, the person who made the vow redeems the animal,13 he must add one fifth to14 its conversion value.

Footnotes

  1. 12 Heb “and the priest shall cause it to be valued.” See the note on v. above.
  2. 13 Heb “And if redeeming [infinitive absolute] he redeems it [finite verb].” For the infinitive absolute used to highlight contrast rather than emphasis see §113.p. The referent of “he” (the person who made the vow) and “it” (the animal) have both been specified in the translation for clarity.
  3. 14 Heb “on,” meaning “on top of, in addition to” (likewise in v. 15).

ESVEnglish Standard Version

And if it is any unclean animal that may not be offered as an offering to the Lord, then he shall stand the animal before the priest, and the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall be. But if he wishes to redeem it, he shall add a fifth to the valuation.

NIVNew International Version (2011)

If what they vowed is a ceremonially unclean animal—one that is not acceptable as an offering to the Lord—the animal must be presented to the priest, who will judge its quality as good or bad. Whatever value the priest then sets, that is what it will be. If the owner wishes to redeem the animal, a fifth must be added to its value.

CSBChristian Standard Bible

“If the vow involves any of the unclean animals that may not be brought as an offering to the Lord, the animal must be presented before the priest. The priest will set its value, whether high or low; the price will be set as the priest makes the assessment for you. If the one who brought it decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value.

NLTNew Living Translation

If your vow involves an unclean animal—one that is not acceptable as an offering to the Lord—then you must bring the animal to the priest. He will assess its value, and his assessment will be final, whether high or low. If you want to buy back the animal, you must pay the value set by the priest, plus 20 percent.

LEBThe Lexham English Bible

But if it is any unclean animal from which they may not present an offering for Yahweh, then he shall present the animal before the priest. And the priest shall set a value on it, either good or bad; as the priest sets your proper value, so it shall be. And if he indeed wants to redeem it, then he shall add a fifth of it onto your proper value.

KJV 1900King James Version

And if it be any unclean beast, of which they do not offer a sacrifice unto the Lord, then he shall present the beast before the priest: And the priest shall value it, whether it be good or bad: as thou valuest it, who art the priest, so shall it be. But if he will at all redeem it, then he shall add a fifth part thereof unto thy estimation.
