Release of Landed Property
25:13“ ‘In this year of jubilee you must each return19 to your property. 25:14If you make a sale20 to your fellow citizen21 or buy22 from your fellow citizen, no one is to wrong his brother.2325:15You may buy it from your fellow citizen according to the number of years since24 the last jubilee; he may sell it to you according to the years of produce that are left.2525:16The more years there are,26 the more you may make its purchase price, and the fewer years there are,27 the less you must make its purchase price, because he is only selling to you a number of years of28 produce. 25:17No one is to oppress his fellow citizen,29 but you must fear your God, because I am the Lord your God.
Footnotes
- 19 Heb “you [plural] shall return, a man.”
- 20 Heb “sell a sale.”
- 21 Or “to one of your countrymen” (); “to your friend.”
- 22 The Hebrew infinitive absolute קָנֹה (qanoh, “buying”) substitutes for the finite verb here in sequence with the previous finite verb “sell” at the beginning of the verse (see §113.z).
- 23 Heb “do not oppress a man his brother.” Here “brother” does not refer only to a sibling, but to a fellow Israelite.
- 24 Heb “in the number of years after.”
- 25 The words “that are left” are not in the Hebrew text, but are implied. The purchaser is actually buying only the crops that the land will produce until the next jubilee, since the land will revert to the original owner at that time. The purchaser, therefore, is not actually buying the land itself.
- 26 Heb “To the mouth of the many years.”
- 27 Heb “to the mouth of the few years.”
- 28 Heb “a number of produce”; the words “years of” are implied. As an alternative this could be translated “a number of harvests” (cf. , ).
- 29 Heb “And you shall not oppress a man his fellow citizen.”

ESVEnglish Standard Version
“In this year of jubilee each of you shall return to his property. And if you make a sale to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another. You shall pay your neighbor according to the number of years after the jubilee, and he shall sell to you according to the number of years for crops. If the years are many, you shall increase the price, and if the years are few, you shall reduce the price, for it is the number of the crops that he is selling to you. You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God, for I am the Lord your God.

NIVNew International Version (2011)
“ ‘In this Year of Jubilee everyone is to return to their own property.
“ ‘If you sell land to any of your own people or buy land from them, do not take advantage of each other. You are to buy from your own people on the basis of the number of years since the Jubilee. And they are to sell to you on the basis of the number of years left for harvesting crops. When the years are many, you are to increase the price, and when the years are few, you are to decrease the price, because what is really being sold to you is the number of crops. Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the Lord your God.

CSBChristian Standard Bible
“In this Year of Jubilee, each of you will return to his property. If you make a sale to your neighbor or a purchase from him, do not cheat one another. You are to make the purchase from your neighbor based on the number of years since the last Jubilee. He is to sell to you based on the number of remaining harvest years. You are to increase its price in proportion to a greater amount of years, and decrease its price in proportion to a lesser amount of years, because what he is selling to you is a number of harvests. You are not to cheat one another, but fear your God, for I am the Lord your God.

NLTNew Living Translation
In the Year of Jubilee each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors.
“When you make an agreement with your neighbor to buy or sell property, you must not take advantage of each other. When you buy land from your neighbor, the price you pay must be based on the number of years since the last jubilee. The seller must set the price by taking into account the number of years remaining until the next Year of Jubilee. The more years until the next jubilee, the higher the price; the fewer years, the lower the price. After all, the person selling the land is actually selling you a certain number of harvests. Show your fear of God by not taking advantage of each other. I am the Lord your God.

LEBThe Lexham English Bible
“ ‘In this Year of Jubilee each of you shall return to his property. And when you sell something to your fellow citizen or you buy from your neighbor’s hand, you must not oppress one another. You must buy from your fellow citizen according to the number of years after the Jubilee; he must sell to you according to the number of years of yield. You must increase its price according to a greater number of years, but you must decrease its price according to a lesser number of years, because he is selling its yields to you. And you must not oppress one another, but you shall revere your God, because I am Yahweh, your God.

KJV 1900King James Version
In the year of this jubile ye shall return every man unto his possession. And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbour, or buyest ought of thy neighbour’s hand, ye shall not oppress one another: According to the number of years after the jubile thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee: According to the multitude of years thou shalt increase the price thereof, and according to the fewness of years thou shalt diminish the price of it: for according to the number of the years of the fruits doth he sell unto thee. Ye shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I am the Lord your God.
