43:2I saw1 the glory of the God of Israel2 coming from the east;3 the sound was like that of rushing water;4 and the earth radiated5 his glory. 43:3It was like the vision I saw when he6 came to destroy the city, and the vision I saw by the Kebar River. I threw myself face down. 43:4The glory of the Lord came into the temple by way of the gate that faces east.

Read in Logos
Ezekiel 43:2: And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory.

Footnotes

  1. 1 The word הִנֵּה (hinneh, traditionally “behold”) indicates becoming aware of something and has been translated here as a verb.
  2. 2 This same title appears in 8:4; 9:3; 10:19; and 11:22.
  3. 3 Earlier Ezekiel had observed God leaving the temple to the east (11:23).
  4. 5 Heb “shone from.”
  5. 6 Heb “I.” The reading is due to the confusion of yod (י, indicating a first person pronoun) and vav (ו, indicating a third person pronoun). A few medieval Hebrew , Theodotion’s Greek version, and the Latin support a third person pronoun here.

Cross references

  1. 4 See Ezek 1:24; Rev 1:15; 14:2; 19:6.

NIVNew International Version (2011)

and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters, and the land was radiant with his glory. The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when he came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown. The glory of the Lord entered the temple through the gate facing east.

CSBChristian Standard Bible

and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice sounded like the roar of a huge torrent, and the earth shone with his glory. The vision I saw was like the one I had seen when he came to destroy the city, and like the ones I had seen by the Chebar Canal. I fell facedown. The glory of the Lord entered the temple by way of the gate that faced east.

NLTNew Living Translation

Suddenly, the glory of the God of Israel appeared from the east. The sound of his coming was like the roar of rushing waters, and the whole landscape shone with his glory. This vision was just like the others I had seen, first by the Kebar River and then when he came to destroy Jerusalem. I fell face down on the ground. And the glory of the Lord came into the Temple through the east gateway.

LEBThe Lexham English Bible

And, look! The glory of the God of Israel, it came from the way of the east, and its sound was like the sound of many waters and the land radiated due to his glory! And the appearance of the vision which I saw was as the vision which I saw at his coming to destroy the city, and these visions were also as the vision which I saw by the Kebar River, and I fell on my face.

And then the glory of Yahweh came to the temple by the way of the gate facing east.

KJV 1900King James Version

And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory. And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face. And the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.
