Look, the days are coming—

this is the declaration of the Lord God—

when I will send a famine through the land:

not a famine of bread or a thirst for water,

but of hearing the words of the Lord.

People will stagger from sea to sea

and roam from north to east

seeking the word of the Lord,

but they will not find it.

In that day the beautiful young women,

the young men also, will faint from thirst.

NLTNew Living Translation

not a famine of bread or water

but of hearing the words of the Lord.

People will stagger from sea to sea

searching for the word of the Lord,

but they will not find it.

Beautiful girls and strong young men

will grow faint in that day,

thirsting for the Lord’s word.

Look, the days are coming,” declares my Lord Yahweh, “when I will send a famine in the land, not a famine for bread and not a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Yahweh! And they will wander from sea to sea and from the north and to the east. They will roam about to seek the word of Yahweh, but they will not find it! In that day the beautiful young women and the young men will faint because of thirst.

KJV 1900King James Version

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God,

That I will send a famine in the land,

Not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,

But of hearing the words of the Lord:

And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east,

They shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.
