2 Samuel 7:28: And now, O LORD God, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant.

Footnotes

  1. 46 Heb “have uncovered the ear of.”
  2. 47 Heb “a house.” This maintains the wordplay from v. 11 (see the on the word “house” there) and is continued in v. 29.
  3. 48 Heb “has found his heart.”
  4. 49 Heb “the God.” The article indicates uniqueness here.
  5. 50 The translation understands the prefixed verb form as a jussive, indicating David’s wish/prayer. Another option is to take the form as an imperfect and translate “your words are true.”
  6. 51 Heb “and you have spoken to your servant this good thing.”
  7. 52 Heb “house” (again later in this verse). See the note on “dynastic house” in v. .
  8. 53 Or “permanently”; cf. “it is an eternal blessing.”

Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to your servant. And now, may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. LEBThe Lexham English Bible

For you, O Yahweh of hosts, are God of Israel! You have revealed to the ear of your servant, ‘I will build a house for you’; therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. Now, my Lord Yahweh, you alone are God, and your words are true. You have promised this good to your servant. So then, be content and bless the house of your servant to be forever in your presence, for you, my Lord Yahweh, have spoken, and because of your blessing, may the house of your servant be blessed forever.”

KJV 1900King James Version
