1:29so that no one can boast in his presence. 1:30He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus,31 who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 1:31so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”32
Footnotes
- 31 Grk “of him you are in Christ Jesus.”
- 32 A quotation from Jer 9:24. The themes of Jer 9 have influenced Paul’s presentation in vv. 26–31. Jeremiah calls upon the wise, the strong, and the wealthy not to trust in their resources but in their knowledge of the true God—and so to boast in the Lord. Paul addresses the same three areas of human pride.

As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”
