Psalm 35:4–10 — The New International Version (NIV)

May those who seek my life

be disgraced and put to shame;

may those who plot my ruin

be turned back in dismay.

May they be like chaff before the wind,

with the angel of the Lord driving them away;

may their path be dark and slippery,

with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

Since they hid their net for me without cause

and without cause dug a pit for me,

may ruin overtake them by surprise—

may the net they hid entangle them,

may they fall into the pit, to their ruin.

Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord

and delight in his salvation.

10 My whole being will exclaim,

“Who is like you, Lord?

You rescue the poor from those too strong for them,

the poor and needy from those who rob them.”

Psalm 35:4–10 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Let them be put to shame and dishonor

who seek after my life!

Let them be turned back and disappointed

who devise evil against me!

Let them be like chaff before the wind,

with the angel of the Lord driving them away!

Let their way be dark and slippery,

with the angel of the Lord pursuing them!

For without cause they hid their net for me;

without cause they dug a pit for my life.

Let destruction come upon him when he does not know it!

And let the net that he hid ensnare him;

let him fall into it—to his destruction!

Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord,

exulting in his salvation.

10 All my bones shall say,

“O Lord, who is like you,

delivering the poor

from him who is too strong for him,

the poor and needy from him who robs him?”

Psalm 35:4–10 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul:

Let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

Let them be as chaff before the wind:

And let the angel of the Lord chase them.

Let their way be dark and slippery:

And let the angel of the Lord persecute them.

For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit,

Which without cause they have digged for my soul.

Let destruction come upon him at unawares;

And let his net that he hath hid catch himself:

Into that very destruction let him fall.

And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord:

It shall rejoice in his salvation.

10 All my bones shall say,

Lord, Who is like unto thee,

Which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him,

Yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

Psalm 35:4–10 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Bring shame and disgrace on those trying to kill me;

turn them back and humiliate those who want to harm me.

Blow them away like chaff in the wind—

a wind sent by the angel of the Lord.

Make their path dark and slippery,

with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

I did them no wrong, but they laid a trap for me.

I did them no wrong, but they dug a pit to catch me.

So let sudden ruin come upon them!

Let them be caught in the trap they set for me!

Let them be destroyed in the pit they dug for me.

Then I will rejoice in the Lord.

I will be glad because he rescues me.

10 With every bone in my body I will praise him:

Lord, who can compare with you?

Who else rescues the helpless from the strong?

Who else protects the helpless and poor from those who rob them?”

Psalm 35:4–10 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Let those be put to shame and brought to dishonor

Who seek after my life;

Let those be turned back and brought to confusion

Who plot my hurt.

Let them be like chaff before the wind,

And let the angel of the Lord chase them.

Let their way be dark and slippery,

And let the angel of the Lord pursue them.

For without cause they have hidden their net for me in a pit,

Which they have dug without cause for my life.

Let destruction come upon him unexpectedly,

And let his net that he has hidden catch himself;

Into that very destruction let him fall.

And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord;

It shall rejoice in His salvation.

10 All my bones shall say,

Lord, who is like You,

Delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him,

Yes, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?”

Psalm 35:4–10 — New Century Version (NCV)

Make those who want to kill me

be ashamed and disgraced.

Make those who plan to harm me

turn back and run away.

Make them like chaff blown by the wind

as the angel of the Lord forces them away.

Let their road be dark and slippery

as the angel of the Lord chases them.

For no reason they spread out their net to trap me;

for no reason they dug a pit for me.

So let ruin strike them suddenly.

Let them be caught in their own nets;

let them fall into the pit and die.

Then I will rejoice in the Lord;

I will be happy when he saves me.

10 Even my bones will say,

Lord, who is like you?

You save the weak from the strong,

the weak and poor from robbers.”

Psalm 35:4–10 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor that seek after my soul:

Let them be turned back and confounded that devise my hurt.

Let them be as chaff before the wind,

And the angel of Jehovah driving them on.

Let their way be dark and slippery,

And the angel of Jehovah pursuing them.

For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit;

Without cause have they digged a pit for my soul.

Let destruction come upon him unawares;

And let his net that he hath hid catch himself:

With destruction let him fall therein.

And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah:

It shall rejoice in his salvation.

10 All my bones shall say,

Jehovah, who is like unto thee,

Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him,

Yea, the poor and the needy from him that robbeth him?

Psalm 35:4–10 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Let them be put to shame and confounded that seek after my life; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that devise my hurt: Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of Jehovah drive them away; Let their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of Jehovah pursue them. For without cause have they hidden for me their net in a pit; without cause they have digged it for my soul. Let destruction come upon him unawares, and let his net which he hath hidden catch himself: for destruction let him fall therein. And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah; it shall rejoice in his salvation. 10 All my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the afflicted from one stronger than he, yea, the afflicted and the needy from him that spoileth him!

Psalm 35:4–10 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Let those who seek my life be put to shame and disgraced.

Let those who plan my downfall be turned back in confusion.

Let them be like husks blown by the wind

as the Messenger of the Lord chases them.

Let their path be dark and slippery

as the Messenger of the Lord pursues them.

For no reason they hid their net in a pit.

For no reason they dug the pit ⸤to trap me⸥.

Let destruction surprise them.

Let the net that they hid catch them.

Let them fall into their own pit and be destroyed.

My soul will find joy in the Lord

and be joyful about his salvation.

10 All my bones will say, “O Lord, who can compare with you?

You rescue the weak person from the one who is too strong for him

and weak and needy people from the one who robs them.”

Psalm 35:4–10 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Let those who seek to kill me

be disgraced and humiliated;

let those who plan to harm me

be turned back and ashamed.

Let them be like chaff in the wind,

with the angel of the Lord driving them away.

Let their way be dark and slippery,

with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

They hid their net for me without cause;

they dug a pit for me without cause.

Let ruin come on him unexpectedly,

and let the net that he hid ensnare him;

let him fall into it—to his ruin.

Then I will rejoice in the Lord;

I will delight in His deliverance.

10 My very bones will say,

Lord, who is like You,

rescuing the poor from one too strong for him,

the poor or the needy from one who robs him?”

Psalm 35:4–10 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Let them be put to shame and dishonor

who seek after my life.

Let them be turned back and confounded

who devise evil against me.

Let them be like chaff before the wind,

with the angel of the Lord driving them on.

Let their way be dark and slippery,

with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

For without cause they hid their net for me;

without cause they dug a pit for my life.

Let ruin come on them unawares.

And let the net that they hid ensnare them;

let them fall in it—to their ruin.

Then my soul shall rejoice in the Lord,

exulting in his deliverance.

10 All my bones shall say,

“O Lord, who is like you?

You deliver the weak

from those too strong for them,

the weak and needy from those who despoil them.”

Psalm 35:4–10 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Let those who seek my life be shamed and humiliated.

Let those who plot calamity against me be repulsed and ashamed.

Let them be like chaff before the wind,

with the angel of Yahweh driving them.

Let their way be dark and slippery,

with the angel of Yahweh pursuing them.

For without cause they secretly hide the pit with their net for me;

without cause they dug it for my life.

Let unforeseen ruin come on him,

and his net that he hid, let it catch him.

Let him fall into it in ruin.

Then my soul will rejoice in Yahweh;

it will rejoice in his salvation.

10 All of my bones shall say, “O Yahweh, who is like you,

who delivers the poor from one stronger than he

and the poor and needy from the one who robs him?”

Psalm 35:4–10 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Let those who are trying to kill me

be brought down in dishonor.

Let those who plan to destroy me

be turned back in terror.

Let them be like straw blowing in the wind,

while the angel of the Lord drives them away.

Let their path be dark and slippery,

while the angel of the Lord chases them.

They set a trap for me without any reason.

Without any reason they dug a pit to catch me.

So let them be destroyed without warning.

Let the trap they set for me catch them.

Let them fall into the pit and be destroyed.

Then I will be full of joy because of what the Lord has done.

I will be glad because he has saved me.

10 My whole being will cry out,

“Who is like you, Lord?

You save poor people from those who are too strong for them.

You save poor and needy people from those who rob them.”
