Job 36:26–29 — The New International Version (NIV)

26 How great is God—beyond our understanding!

The number of his years is past finding out.

27 “He draws up the drops of water,

which distill as rain to the streams;

28 the clouds pour down their moisture

and abundant showers fall on mankind.

29 Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds,

how he thunders from his pavilion?

Job 36:26–29 — English Standard Version (ESV)

26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not;

the number of his years is unsearchable.

27 For he draws up the drops of water;

they distill his mist in rain,

28 which the skies pour down

and drop on mankind abundantly.

29 Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds,

the thunderings of his pavilion?

Job 36:26–29 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not,

Neither can the number of his years be searched out.

27 For he maketh small the drops of water:

They pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:

28 Which the clouds do drop

And distil upon man abundantly.

29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds,

Or the noise of his tabernacle?

Job 36:26–29 — New Living Translation (NLT)

26 “Look, God is greater than we can understand.

His years cannot be counted.

27 He draws up the water vapor

and then distills it into rain.

28 The rain pours down from the clouds,

and everyone benefits.

29 Who can understand the spreading of the clouds

and the thunder that rolls forth from heaven?

Job 36:26–29 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

26 “Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him;

Nor can the number of His years be discovered.

27 For He draws up drops of water,

Which distill as rain from the mist,

28 Which the clouds drop down

And pour abundantly on man.

29 Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds,

The thunder from His canopy?

Job 36:26–29 — New Century Version (NCV)

26 God is so great, greater than we can understand!

No one knows how old he is.

27 “He evaporates the drops of water from the earth

and turns them into rain.

28 The rain then pours down from the clouds,

and showers fall on people.

29 No one understands how God spreads out the clouds

or how he sends thunder from where he lives.

Job 36:26–29 — American Standard Version (ASV)

26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not;

The number of his years is unsearchable.

27 For he draweth up the drops of water,

Which distil in rain from his vapor,

28 Which the skies pour down

And drop upon man abundantly.

29 Yea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds,

The thunderings of his pavilion?

Job 36:26–29 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

26 Lo, •God is great, and we comprehend him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out. 27 For he draweth up the drops of water: they distil in rain from the vapour which he formeth, 28 Which the skies pour down and drop upon man abundantly. 29 But can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the crashing of his pavilion?

Job 36:26–29 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

26 “Certainly, God is so great

that he is beyond our understanding.

The number of his years cannot be counted.

27 He collects drops of water.

He distills rain from his mist,

28 which then drips from the clouds.

It pours down on many people.

29 Can anyone really understand how clouds spread out

or how he thunders from his dwelling place?

Job 36:26–29 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

26 Yes, God is exalted beyond our knowledge;

the number of His years cannot be counted.

27 For He makes waterdrops evaporate;

they distill the rain into its mist,

28 which the clouds pour out

and shower abundantly on mankind.

29 Can anyone understand how the clouds spread out

or how the thunder roars from God’s pavilion?

Job 36:26–29 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

26 Surely God is great, and we do not know him;

the number of his years is unsearchable.

27 For he draws up the drops of water;

he distills his mist in rain,

28 which the skies pour down

and drop upon mortals abundantly.

29 Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds,

the thunderings of his pavilion?

Job 36:26–29 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

26 “Look, God is exalted, and we do not know him;

the number of his years is unsearchable.

27 Indeed, he draws up the drops of water;

he distills the rain into its mist,

28 which the clouds pour down;

they shower abundantly on human beings.

29 “Moreover, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds,

the thundering of his dwelling place?

Job 36:26–29 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

26 How great God is! We’ll never completely understand him.

We’ll never find out how long he has lived.

27 “He makes mist rise from the water.

Then it falls as rain into the streams.

28 The clouds pour down their moisture.

Rain showers fall on people everywhere.

29 Who can understand how God spreads out the clouds?

Who can explain how he thunders from his home in heaven?
