Hebrews 8:7–8 — The New International Version (NIV)

For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said:

“The days are coming, declares the Lord,

when I will make a new covenant

with the people of Israel

and with the people of Judah.

Hebrews 8:7–8 — English Standard Version (ESV)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

For he finds fault with them when he says:

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,

when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel

and with the house of Judah,

Hebrews 8:7–8 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

Hebrews 8:7–8 — New Living Translation (NLT)

If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it. But when God found fault with the people, he said:

“The day is coming, says the Lord,

when I will make a new covenant

with the people of Israel and Judah.

Hebrews 8:7–8 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—

Hebrews 8:7–8 — New Century Version (NCV)

If there had been nothing wrong with the first agreement, there would have been no need for a second agreement. But God found something wrong with his people. He says:

“Look, the time is coming, says the Lord,

when I will make a new agreement

with the people of Israel

and the people of Judah.

Hebrews 8:7–8 — American Standard Version (ASV)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then would no place have been sought for a second. For finding fault with them, he saith,

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,

That I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;

Hebrews 8:7–8 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

For if that first was faultless, place had not been sought for a second. For finding fault, he says to them, Behold, days come, saith the Lord, and I will consummate a new covenant as regards the house of Israel, and as regards the house of Juda;

Hebrews 8:7–8 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

If nothing had been wrong with the first promise, no one would look for another one. But God found something wrong with his people and said to them,

“The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new promise to Israel and Judah.

Hebrews 8:7–8 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one. But finding fault with His people, He says:

Look, the days are coming, says the Lord,

when I will make a new covenant

with the house of Israel

and with the house of Judah—

Hebrews 8:7–8 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need to look for a second one.

God finds fault with them when he says:

“The days are surely coming, says the Lord,

when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel

and with the house of Judah;

Hebrews 8:7–8 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, occasion would not have been sought for a second. For in finding fault with them he says,

“Behold, days are coming, says the Lord,

when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel

and with the house of Judah,

Hebrews 8:7–8 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Suppose nothing had been wrong with that first covenant. Then no one would have looked for another covenant. But God found fault with the people. He said,

“A new day is coming, says the Lord.

I will make a new covenant

with the people of Israel.
