Psalm 143:1–6 — The New International Version (NIV)

Lord, hear my prayer,

listen to my cry for mercy;

in your faithfulness and righteousness

come to my relief.

Do not bring your servant into judgment,

for no one living is righteous before you.

The enemy pursues me,

he crushes me to the ground;

he makes me dwell in the darkness

like those long dead.

So my spirit grows faint within me;

my heart within me is dismayed.

I remember the days of long ago;

I meditate on all your works

and consider what your hands have done.

I spread out my hands to you;

I thirst for you like a parched land.

Psalm 143:1–6 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Hear my prayer, O Lord;

give ear to my pleas for mercy!

In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!

Enter not into judgment with your servant,

for no one living is righteous before you.

For the enemy has pursued my soul;

he has crushed my life to the ground;

he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.

Therefore my spirit faints within me;

my heart within me is appalled.

I remember the days of old;

I meditate on all that you have done;

I ponder the work of your hands.

I stretch out my hands to you;

my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah

Psalm 143:1–6 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Hear my prayer, O Lord,

Give ear to my supplications:

In thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.

And enter not into judgment with thy servant:

For in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

For the enemy hath persecuted my soul;

He hath smitten my life down to the ground;

He hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me;

My heart within me is desolate.

I remember the days of old;

I meditate on all thy works;

I muse on the work of thy hands.

I stretch forth my hands unto thee:

My soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.

Psalm 143:1–6 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Hear my prayer, O Lord;

listen to my plea!

Answer me because you are faithful and righteous.

Don’t put your servant on trial,

for no one is innocent before you.

My enemy has chased me.

He has knocked me to the ground

and forces me to live in darkness like those in the grave.

I am losing all hope;

I am paralyzed with fear.

I remember the days of old.

I ponder all your great works

and think about what you have done.

I lift my hands to you in prayer.

I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain.

Hear my prayer, O Lord,

Give ear to my supplications!

In Your faithfulness answer me,

And in Your righteousness.

Do not enter into judgment with Your servant,

For in Your sight no one living is righteous.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul;

He has crushed my life to the ground;

He has made me dwell in darkness,

Like those who have long been dead.

Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me;

My heart within me is distressed.

I remember the days of old;

I meditate on all Your works;

I muse on the work of Your hands.

I spread out my hands to You;

My soul longs for You like a thirsty land.

Psalm 143:1–6 — New Century Version (NCV)

Lord, hear my prayer;

listen to my cry for mercy.

Answer me

because you are loyal and good.

Don’t judge me, your servant,

because no one alive is right before you.

My enemies are chasing me;

they crushed me to the ground.

They made me live in darkness

like those long dead.

I am afraid;

my courage is gone.

I remember what happened long ago;

I consider everything you have done.

I think about all you have made.

I lift my hands to you in prayer.

As a dry land needs rain, I thirst for you.

Hear my prayer, O Jehovah; give ear to my supplications:

In thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.

For in thy sight no man living is righteous.

For the enemy hath persecuted my soul;

He hath smitten my life down to the ground:

He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me;

I remember the days of old;

I meditate on all thy doings;

I muse on the work of thy hands.

Psalm 143:1–6 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Jehovah, hear my prayer; give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with thy servant; for in thy sight no man living shall be justified. For the enemy persecuteth my soul: he hath crushed my life down to the earth; he hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead. And my spirit is overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate. I remember the days of old: I meditate on all thy doing; I muse on the work of thy hands. I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul, as a parched land, thirsteth after thee. Selah.

Psalm 143:1–6 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

O Lord, listen to my prayer.

Open your ears to hear my urgent requests.

Answer me because you are faithful and righteous.

Do not take me to court for judgment,

because there is no one alive

who is righteous in your presence.

The enemy has pursued me.

He has ground my life into the dirt.

He has made me live in dark places

like those who have died long ago.

That is why I begin to lose hope

and my heart is in a state of shock.

I remember the days long ago.

I reflect on all that you have done.

I carefully consider what your hands have made.

I stretch out my hands to you in prayer.

Like parched land, my soul thirsts for you.

Selah

like those long dead.

My spirit is weak within me;

my heart is overcome with dismay.

I remember the days of old;

I meditate on all You have done;

I reflect on the work of Your hands.

I spread out my hands to You;

I am like parched land before You. Selah

Psalm 143:1–6 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Lord, hear my prayer.

Listen to my cry for your favor.

You are faithful and right.

Come and help me.

Don’t take me to court and judge me,

because in your eyes no living person does what is right.

My enemies chase me.

They crush me down to the ground.

They make me live in darkness

like those who died long ago.

So I grow weak.

Deep down inside me, I’m afraid.

I remember what happened long ago.

I spend time thinking about all of your acts.

I consider what your hands have done.

I spread out my hands to you in prayer.

I’m thirsty for you, just as dry ground is thirsty for rain. Selah
