Jeremiah 8:13–15 — The New International Version (NIV)

13 “ ‘I will take away their harvest,

declares the Lord.

There will be no grapes on the vine.

There will be no figs on the tree,

and their leaves will wither.

What I have given them

will be taken from them.’ ”

14 Why are we sitting here?

Gather together!

Let us flee to the fortified cities

and perish there!

For the Lord our God has doomed us to perish

and given us poisoned water to drink,

because we have sinned against him.

15 We hoped for peace

but no good has come,

for a time of healing

but there is only terror.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — English Standard Version (ESV)

13 When I would gather them, declares the Lord,

there are no grapes on the vine,

nor figs on the fig tree;

even the leaves are withered,

and what I gave them has passed away from them.”

14 Why do we sit still?

Gather together; let us go into the fortified cities

and perish there,

for the Lord our God has doomed us to perish

and has given us poisoned water to drink,

because we have sinned against the Lord.

15 We looked for peace, but no good came;

for a time of healing, but behold, terror.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

13 I will surely consume them, saith the Lord: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them. 14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord. 15 We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — New Living Translation (NLT)

13 I will surely consume them.

There will be no more harvests of figs and grapes.

Their fruit trees will all die.

Whatever I gave them will soon be gone.

I, the Lord, have spoken!’

14 “Then the people will say,

‘Why should we wait here to die?

Come, let’s go to the fortified towns and die there.

For the Lord our God has decreed our destruction

and has given us a cup of poison to drink

because we sinned against the Lord.

15 We hoped for peace, but no peace came.

We hoped for a time of healing, but found only terror.’

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

13 “I will surely consume them,” says the Lord.

“No grapes shall be on the vine,

Nor figs on the fig tree,

And the leaf shall fade;

And the things I have given them shall pass away from them.” ’ ”

14 “Why do we sit still?

Assemble yourselves,

And let us enter the fortified cities,

And let us be silent there.

For the Lord our God has put us to silence

And given us water of gall to drink,

Because we have sinned against the Lord.

15 We looked for peace, but no good came;

And for a time of health, and there was trouble!

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — New Century Version (NCV)

13 “ ‘I will take away their crops, says the Lord.

There will be no grapes on the vine

and no figs on the fig tree.

Even the leaves will dry up and die.

I will take away what I gave them.’ ”

14 “Why are we just sitting here?

Let’s get together!

We have sinned against the Lord,

so he has given us poisoned water to drink.

Come, let’s run to the strong, walled cities.

The Lord our God has decided that we must die,

so let’s die there.

15 We hoped to have peace,

but nothing good has come.

We hoped for a time when he would heal us,

but only terror has come.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — American Standard Version (ASV)

13 I will utterly consume them, saith Jehovah: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig-tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.

14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there; for Jehovah our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against Jehovah. 15 We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and, behold, dismay!

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

13 I will utterly take them away, saith Jehovah: there are no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig-tree; and the leaf is faded: and I will give them up to those that shall pass over them. 14 Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fenced cities, and let us be silent there: for Jehovah our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against Jehovah. 15 Peace is looked for, and there is no good; a time of healing, and behold, terror.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

13 “ ‘I would have gathered their harvest,’ ” declares the Lord

“ ‘but there are no grapes on the vine.

There are no figs on the tree,

and the leaves have dried up.

What I have given them will be taken away.’ ”

14 Why are we just sitting here? Let’s get up!

Let’s go into the fortified cities and die there.

The Lord our God has condemned us to die.

He has given us poison to drink

because we have sinned against the Lord

15 We hoped for peace, but nothing good has happened.

We hoped for a time of healing, but there’s only terror.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

13 I will gather them and bring them to an end.

This is the Lord’s declaration.

There will be no grapes on the vine,

no figs on the fig tree,

and even the leaf will wither.

Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.

14 Why are we just sitting here?

Gather together; let us enter the fortified cities

and perish there,

for the Lord our God has destroyed us.

He has given us poisoned water to drink,

because we have sinned against the Lord.

15 We hoped for peace, but there was nothing good;

for a time of healing, but there was only terror.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

13 When I wanted to gather them, says the Lord,

there are no grapes on the vine,

nor figs on the fig tree;

even the leaves are withered,

and what I gave them has passed away from them.

14 Why do we sit still?

Gather together, let us go into the fortified cities

and perish there;

for the Lord our God has doomed us to perish,

and has given us poisoned water to drink,

because we have sinned against the Lord.

15 We look for peace, but find no good,

for a time of healing, but there is terror instead.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

13 “I will take away their harvest,” declares Yahweh.

“There are no grapes on the vine,

and there are no figs on the fig tree,

and the leaves wither,

and what I gave to them passed over them.” ’ ”

14 Why are we sitting?

Gather, and let us go into the fortified cities,

and let us perish there,

for Yahweh our God has caused us to perish,

and has provided drink for us, water of poison,

because we have sinned against Yahweh.

15 We hope for peace,

but there is no good,

for a time of healing,

but there is terror.

Jeremiah 8:13–15 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

13 “ ‘ “I will take away their harvest,”

announces the Lord.

“There will not be any grapes on the vines.

The trees will not bear any figs.

The leaves on the trees will dry up.

What I have given them

will be taken away from them.” ’ ”

14 Why are we sitting here?

Let’s gather together!

Let’s run to the cities that have high walls around them!

Let’s die there!

The Lord our God has sentenced us to death.

He has given us poisoned water to drink.

That’s because we’ve sinned against him.

15 We hoped peace would come.

But nothing good has happened to us.

We hoped we would finally be healed.

But all we got was terror.
