Isaiah 30:11–15

11 “Get out of the way, aturn aside from the path,

1bLet us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel,

aSince you have rejected this word

And have put your trust in boppression and guile, and have relied on them,

13 Therefore this ainiquity will be to you

Like a bbreach about to fall,

A bulge in a high wall,

Whose collapse comes csuddenly in an instant,

14 Whose collapse is like the smashing of a apotter’s jar,

1So ruthlessly shattered

That a sherd will not be found among its pieces

To 2take fire from a hearth

Or to scoop water from a cistern.”

15 For thus the Lord 1God, the Holy One of Israel, has said,

“In 2repentance and arest you will be saved,

In bquietness and trust is your strength.”

But you were not willing,

Isaiah 30:11–15 — The New International Version (NIV)

11 Leave this way,

get off this path,

and stop confronting us

with the Holy One of Israel!”

12 Therefore this is what the Holy One of Israel says:

“Because you have rejected this message,

relied on oppression

and depended on deceit,

13 this sin will become for you

like a high wall, cracked and bulging,

that collapses suddenly, in an instant.

14 It will break in pieces like pottery,

shattered so mercilessly

that among its pieces not a fragment will be found

for taking coals from a hearth

or scooping water out of a cistern.”

15 This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:

“In repentance and rest is your salvation,

in quietness and trust is your strength,

but you would have none of it.

Isaiah 30:11–15 — English Standard Version (ESV)

11 leave the way, turn aside from the path,

let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel,

“Because you despise this word

and trust in oppression and perverseness

and rely on them,

13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you

like a breach in a high wall, bulging out and about to collapse,

whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant;

14 and its breaking is like that of a potter’s vessel

that is smashed so ruthlessly

that among its fragments not a shard is found

with which to take fire from the hearth,

or to dip up water out of the cistern.”

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,

“In returning and rest you shall be saved;

in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”

But you were unwilling,

Isaiah 30:11–15 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

11 Get you out of the way,

Turn aside out of the path,

Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel,

Because ye despise this word,

And trust in oppression and perverseness,

And stay thereon:

13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall,

Swelling out in a high wall,

Whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.

14 And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel

That is broken in pieces; he shall not spare:

So that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd

To take fire from the hearth,

Or to take water withal out of the pit.

15 For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel;

In returning and rest shall ye be saved;

In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength:

And ye would not.

Isaiah 30:11–15 — New Living Translation (NLT)

11 Forget all this gloom.

Get off your narrow path.

Stop telling us about your

‘Holy One of Israel.’ ”

12 This is the reply of the Holy One of Israel:

“Because you despise what I tell you

and trust instead in oppression and lies,

13 calamity will come upon you suddenly—

like a bulging wall that bursts and falls.

In an instant it will collapse

and come crashing down.

14 You will be smashed like a piece of pottery—

shattered so completely that

there won’t be a piece big enough

to carry coals from a fireplace

or a little water from the well.”

15 This is what the Sovereign Lord,

the Holy One of Israel, says:

“Only in returning to me

and resting in me will you be saved.

In quietness and confidence is your strength.

But you would have none of it.

Isaiah 30:11–15 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

11 Get out of the way,

Turn aside from the path,

Cause the Holy One of Israel

To cease from before us.”

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

“Because you despise this word,

And trust in oppression and perversity,

And rely on them,

13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you

Like a breach ready to fall,

A bulge in a high wall,

Whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.

14 And He shall break it like the breaking of the potter’s vessel,

Which is broken in pieces;

He shall not spare.

So there shall not be found among its fragments

A shard to take fire from the hearth,

Or to take water from the cistern.”

15 For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:

“In returning and rest you shall be saved;

In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”

But you would not,

Isaiah 30:11–15 — New Century Version (NCV)

11 Stop blocking our path.

Get out of our way.

Stop telling us

about God, the Holy One of Israel.”

12 So this is what the Holy One of Israel says:

“You people have refused to accept this message

and have depended on cruelty and lies to help you.

13 You are guilty of these things.

So you will be like a high wall with cracks in it

that falls suddenly and breaks into small pieces.

14 You will be like a clay jar that breaks,

smashed into many pieces.

Those pieces will be too small

to take coals from the fire

or to get water from a well.”

15 This is what the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, says:

“If you come back to me and trust me, you will be saved.

If you will be calm and trust me, you will be strong.”

But you don’t want to do that.

Isaiah 30:11–15 — American Standard Version (ASV)

11 get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. 12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely thereon; 13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly in an instant. 14 And he shall break it as a potter’s vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing; so that there shall not be found among the pieces thereof a sherd wherewith to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern. 15 For thus said the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. And ye would not:

Isaiah 30:11–15 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

11 get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us! 12 Therefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel: Because ye reject this word, and confide in oppression and wilfulness, and depend thereon, 13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a towering wall, whose breaking shall come suddenly in an instant. 14 And he shall break it as the breaking of a potter’s vessel, that is broken in pieces unsparingly; and in the pieces of it there shall not be found a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to scoop water out of the cistern. 15 For thus saith the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be your strength; but ye would not.

Isaiah 30:11–15 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

11 Get out of our way! Stop blocking our path!

Get the Holy One of Israel out of our sight.’ ”

12 This is what the Holy One of Israel says:

You have rejected this warning,

trusted oppression and deceit,

and leaned on them.

13 That is why your sin will be

like a high wall with a bulging crack, ready to fall.

All of a sudden it will fall.

14 It will break like pottery.

It will be smashed, and nothing will be left of it.

No piece will be big enough to carry live coals from a fireplace

or to dip water from a reservoir.

15 This is what the Almighty Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:

You can be saved by returning to me.

You can have rest.

You can be strong by being quiet and by trusting me.

But you don’t want that.

Isaiah 30:11–15 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

11 Get out of the way!

Leave the pathway.

Rid us of the Holy One of Israel.”

12 Therefore the Holy One of Israel says:

“Because you have rejected this message

and have trusted in oppression and deceit,

and have depended on them,

13 this iniquity of yours will be

like a spreading breach,

a bulge in a high wall

whose collapse will come in an instant—suddenly!

14 Its collapse will be like the shattering

of a potter’s jar, crushed to pieces,

so that not even a fragment of pottery

will be found among its shattered remains—

no fragment large enough to take fire from a hearth

or scoop water from a cistern.”

15 For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said:

“You will be delivered by returning and resting;

your strength will lie in quiet confidence.

But you are not willing.”

Isaiah 30:11–15 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

11 leave the way, turn aside from the path,

let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

Because you reject this word,

and put your trust in oppression and deceit,

and rely on them;

13 therefore this iniquity shall become for you

like a break in a high wall, bulging out, and about to collapse,

whose crash comes suddenly, in an instant;

14 its breaking is like that of a potter’s vessel

that is smashed so ruthlessly

that among its fragments not a sherd is found

for taking fire from the hearth,

or dipping water out of the cistern.

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:

In returning and rest you shall be saved;

in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.

But you refused

Isaiah 30:11–15 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

11 turn aside from the way, turn aside from the path,

put an end to the holy one of Israel from our face.”

12 Therefore the holy one of Israel says this:

“Because you are rejecting this word

and you trust in oppression and cunning

and you rely on it,

13 therefore this iniquity shall come for you like a breach about to fall,

bulging out on a high wall that breaks suddenly, in an instant.

14 And he breaks it like a vessel of a potter breaks,

that is crushed; he has no compassion,

and no potsherd is found among its fragments to take fire from the hearth,

or to skim water from the cistern.”

15 For the Lord Yahweh, the holy one of Israel, said this:

“In returning and rest you shall be saved;

your strength shall be in quietness and in trust.”

But you were not willing,

Isaiah 30:11–15 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

11 Get out of our way!

Get off our path!

Keep the Holy One of Israel away from us!’ ”

12 So the Holy One of Israel speaks. He says,

“You have turned your backs on what I have said.

You have depended on telling people lies.

You have crushed others.

13 Those sins are like cracks in a high wall.

They get bigger and bigger.

Suddenly the wall breaks apart.

Then it quickly falls down.

14 It breaks into small pieces like a clay pot.

It breaks up completely.

Not one piece is left big enough

for taking coals from a fireplace.

Not one piece is left for dipping water out of a well.”

15 The Lord and King is the Holy One of Israel. He says,

“You will find peace and rest

when you turn away from your sins and depend on me.

You will receive the strength you need

when you stay calm and trust in me.

But you do not want to do what I tell you to.
