The Angel and the Little Scroll

10And I saw another powerful angel descending from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, and a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire,a 2and holding in his hand a little scroll that was opened. And he put his right foot on the sea and his* left on the land. 3And he cried out with a loud voice like a lion roars, and when he cried out, the seven thunders soundedb their own voices. 4And when the seven thunders spoke,c I was about to write, and I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders spoke, and do not write them!”

5And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven 6and swore by the one who lives forever and everd, who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, “There will be no more delay! 7But in the days of the sound of the seventh angel, whenever he is about to blow the trumpet, thene the mystery of God is completed, as he announced to his own slaves the prophets.”

8And the voice that I had heard from heaven was speaking with me again and saying, “Go, take the opened scroll in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” 9And I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll, and he said to me, “Take and eat it up, and it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it up, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth, and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter. 11And they said to me, “It is necessary for you to prophesy again about many peoples and nations and languages and kings.”

The Two Witnesses

11And a measuring rod similar in appearance to a staff was given to me, saying, “Get up and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship in it. 2And leave out the courtyard outside of the temple, and do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles, and they will trample the holy city for forty two months. 3And I will grant authority* to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days, dressed in sackcloth.” 4These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. 5And if anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouth and consumes their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, in this way he must be killed. 6These have the authority to shut the sky, so that it does not raina during the days of their prophecy. And they have authority over the waters, to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with every plague as often as they wish.

7And when they have completed their testimony, the beast that comes up from the abyss will make war with them and will conquer them and will kill them. 8And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is called symbolically Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. 9And those from peoples and tribes and languages and nations will see their dead bodies three and a half days, and they will not allow their dead bodies to be placed in a tomb. 10And those who live on the earth will rejoice over them, and will celebrate and will send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who live on the earth.

11And after the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. 12And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here,” and they went up into heaven in a cloud, and their enemies watched them. 13And at that hour a great earthquake took place, and a tenth of the city collapsed, and seven thousand peopleb were killed by the earthquake, and the rest became terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven. 14The second woe has passed. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly!

The Blowing of the Seventh Trumpet

15And the seventh angel blew the trumpet, and there was a loud voice in heaven saying,

“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord

and of his Christ,

and he will reign forever and everc.”

16And the twenty-four elders who are seated on their thrones before God fell down on their faces and worshiped God, 17saying,

“We give thanks to you, Lord God All-Powerful,

the one who is and the one who was,

because you have taken your great power

and have begun to reign.

18And the nations were angry,

and your wrath has come,

and the time for the dead to be judged,

and to give their* reward to your slaves the prophets

and to the saints and to the ones who fear your name,

the small and the great,

and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

19And the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant appeared in his temple, and there were lightnings and sounds and thunders and an earthquake and large hail.d
