2So he answered and* said to them, “When* evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather because the sky is red,’ 3and early in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy weather, because the sky is red and* darkening.’ You know how to evaluate correctly the appearance of the sky, but you are not able to evaluate* the signs of the times.
Footnotes
- *Here “and” is supplied because the previous participle (“answered”) has been translated as a finite verb
- *Here “when” is supplied as a component of the temporal genitive absolute participle (“comes”)
- *Here “and” is supplied in the translation because of English style
- *Here “to evaluate” is an implied repetition of the verb earlier in the verse

He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
