Jeremiah 49:32–36

32 Their camels will become plunder,

and their large herds will be spoils of war.

I will scatter to the winds those who are in distant places

and will bring disaster on them from every side,”

declares the Lord.

33 “Hazor will become a haunt of jackals,

a desolate place forever.

No one will live there;

no people will dwell in it.”

34 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah:

35 This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“See, I will break the bow of Elam,

the mainstay of their might.

36 I will bring against Elam the four winds

from the four quarters of heaven;

I will scatter them to the four winds,

and there will not be a nation

where Elam’s exiles do not go.

32 Their camels shall become plunder,

their herds of livestock a spoil.

I will scatter to every wind

those who cut the corners of their hair,

and I will bring their calamity

from every side of them,

declares the Lord.

33 Hazor shall become a haunt of jackals,

an everlasting waste;

no man shall dwell there;

no man shall sojourn in her.”

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah.

35 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. 36 And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven. And I will scatter them to all those winds, and there shall be no nation to which those driven out of Elam shall not come.

32 And their camels shall be a booty,

And the multitude of their cattle a spoil:

And I will scatter into all winds them that are in the utmost corners;

And I will bring their calamity from all sides thereof, saith the Lord.

33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons,

And a desolation for ever:

There shall no man abide there,

Nor any son of man dwell in it.

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,

35 Thus saith the Lord of hosts;

Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,

The chief of their might.

36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds

From the four quarters of heaven,

And will scatter them toward all those winds;

And there shall be no nation

Whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.

32 Their camels and other livestock will all be yours.

I will scatter to the winds these people

who live in remote places.

I will bring calamity upon them

from every direction,” says the Lord.

33 “Hazor will be inhabited by jackals,

and it will be desolate forever.

No one will live there;

no one will inhabit it.”

34 This message concerning Elam came to the prophet Jeremiah from the Lord at the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah. 35 This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says:

“I will destroy the archers of Elam—

the best of their forces.

36 I will bring enemies from all directions,

and I will scatter the people of Elam to the four winds.

They will be exiled to countries around the world.

32 Their camels shall be for booty,

And the multitude of their cattle for plunder.

I will scatter to all winds those in the farthest corners,

And I will bring their calamity from all its sides,” says the Lord.

33 “Hazor shall be a dwelling for jackals, a desolation forever;

No one shall reside there,

Nor son of man dwell in it.”

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

‘Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,

The foremost of their might.

36 Against Elam I will bring the four winds

From the four quarters of heaven,

And scatter them toward all those winds;

There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.

32 The enemy will steal their camels

and their large herds of cattle as war prizes.

I will scatter the people who cut their hair short to every part of the earth,

and I will bring disaster on them from everywhere,” says the Lord.

33 “The city of Hazor will become a home for wild dogs;

it will be an empty desert forever.

No one will live there,

and no one will stay in it.”

34 Soon after Zedekiah became king of Judah, the Lord spoke this word to Jeremiah the prophet. This message is to the nation of Elam.

35 This is what the Lord All-Powerful says:

“I will soon break Elam’s bow,

its greatest strength.

36 I will bring the four winds against Elam

from the four corners of the skies.

I will scatter its people everywhere the four winds blow;

its captives will go to every nation.

32 And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter unto all winds them that have the corners of their hair cut off; and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, saith Jehovah. 33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling-place of jackals, a desolation for ever: no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein.

34 The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. 36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.

32 And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil; and I will scatter to every wind them that have the corners of their beard cut off, and I will bring their calamity from all sides thereof, saith Jehovah. 33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling-place of jackals, a desolation for ever. No one shall dwell there, neither shall a son of man sojourn therein.

34 The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. 36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds, from the four ends of the heavens, and I will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.

32 Their camels will be taken as prizes. 

Their large herds will be taken as loot. 

I will scatter to the winds 

those who shave the hair on their foreheads. 

I will bring disaster on them from every side, 

declares the Lord. 

33 Hazor will be a place where only jackals live. 

It will become a permanent wasteland. 

No one will live there. 

No human will stay there. 

34 Early in the rule of King Zedekiah of Judah, the Lord spoke his word to the prophet Jeremiah about Elam. 

35 This is what the Lord of Armies says: 

I’m going to break the bows of Elam’s archers, 

the most important weapon of their strength. 

36 I’ll bring the four winds 

from the four corners of heaven against Elam 

and scatter its people in every direction. 

There won’t be a nation 

where Elam’s refugees won’t go. 

32 Their camels will become plunder,

and their massive herds of cattle will become spoil.

I will scatter them to the wind in every direction,

those who shave their temples;

I will bring calamity on them across all their borders.

This is the Lord’s declaration.

33 Hazor will become a jackals’ den,

a desolation forever.

No one will live there;

no human being will even stay in it as a temporary resident.

34 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet about Elam at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah. 35 This is what the Lord of Hosts says:

I am about to shatter Elam’s bow,

the source of their might.

36 I will bring the four winds against Elam

from the four corners of the heavens,

and I will scatter them to all these winds.

There will not be a nation

to which Elam’s banished ones will not go.

32 Their camels shall become plunder;

their herds of cattle a spoil.

I will scatter to every wind

those who have shaved temples,

and I will bring calamity

against them from every side,

says the Lord.

33 Hazor shall become a lair of jackals,

an everlasting waste;

no one shall live there,

nor shall anyone settle in it.

34 The word of the Lord that came to the prophet Jeremiah concerning Elam, at the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah.

35 Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am going to break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might, 36 and I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and I will scatter them to all these winds, and there shall be no nation to which the exiles from Elam shall not come.

32 Their camels will be stolen.

Their large herds will be taken away.

I will scatter to the winds those who are in places far away.

I will bring trouble on them from every side,”

announces the Lord.

33 “Hazor will become a home for wild dogs.

It will be a dry and empty desert forever.

No one will live in that land.

No one will stay there even for a short time.”

34 A message came to me from the Lord. It was about Elam. It came shortly after Zedekiah became king of Judah.

35 The Lord who rules over all said,

“Elam’s bow is the secret of its strength.

But I will break it.

36 I will bring the four winds against Elam.

I will bring them from all four directions.

I will scatter Elam’s people to the four winds.

They will be taken away

to every nation on earth.

32 “Their camels will become plunder,

And their many cattle for booty,

And I will scatter to all the winds those who cut the corners of their hair;

And I will bring their disaster from every side,” declares the Lord.

33 “Hazor will become a haunt of jackals,

A desolation forever;

No one will live there,

Nor will a son of man reside in it.”

34 That which came as the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying:

35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts,

‘Behold, I am going to break the bow of Elam,

The finest of their might.

36 ‘I will bring upon Elam the four winds

From the four ends of heaven,

And will scatter them to all these winds;

And there will be no nation

To which the outcasts of Elam will not go.
