Jeremiah 46:18–20

18 “As surely as I live,” declares the King,

whose name is the Lord Almighty,

“one will come who is like Tabor among the mountains,

like Carmel by the sea.

19 Pack your belongings for exile,

you who live in Egypt,

for Memphis will be laid waste

and lie in ruins without inhabitant.

20 “Egypt is a beautiful heifer,

but a gadfly is coming

against her from the north.

18 “As I live, declares the King,

whose name is the Lord of hosts,

like Tabor among the mountains

and like Carmel by the sea, shall one come.

19 Prepare yourselves baggage for exile,

O inhabitants of Egypt!

For Memphis shall become a waste,

a ruin, without inhabitant.

20 “A beautiful heifer is Egypt,

but a biting fly from the north has come upon her.

18 As I live, saith the King,

Whose name is the Lord of hosts,

Surely as Tabor is among the mountains,

And as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

19 O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt,

Furnish thyself to go into captivity:

For Noph shall be waste

And desolate without an inhabitant.

20 Egypt is like a very fair heifer,

But destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

18 “As surely as I live,” says the King,

whose name is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,

“one is coming against Egypt

who is as tall as Mount Tabor,

or as Mount Carmel by the sea!

19 Pack up! Get ready to leave for exile,

you citizens of Egypt!

The city of Memphis will be destroyed,

without a single inhabitant.

20 Egypt is as sleek as a beautiful heifer,

but a horsefly from the north is on its way!

18 “As I live,” says the King,

Whose name is the Lord of hosts,

“Surely as Tabor is among the mountains

And as Carmel by the sea, so he shall come.

19 O you daughter dwelling in Egypt,

Prepare yourself to go into captivity!

For Noph shall be waste and desolate, without inhabitant.

20 “Egypt is a very pretty heifer,

But destruction comes, it comes from the north.

18 The King’s name is the Lord All-Powerful.

He says, “As surely as I live,

a powerful leader will come.

He will be like Mount Tabor among the mountains,

like Mount Carmel by the sea.

19 People of Egypt, pack your things

to be taken away as captives,

because Memphis will be destroyed.

It will be a ruin, and no one will live there.

20 “Egypt is like a beautiful young cow,

but a horsefly is coming

from the north to attack her.

18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts, surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19 O thou daughter that dwellest in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity; for Memphis shall become a desolation, and shall be burnt up, without inhabitant. 20 Egypt is a very fair heifer; but destruction out of the north is come, it is come.

18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts, surely as Tabor among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19 Thou, inhabitress, daughter of Egypt, furnish for thyself a captive’s baggage, for Noph shall be a desolation and shall be ruined, so that none shall dwell therein. 20 Egypt is a very fair heifer; the gad-fly cometh, it cometh from the north.

“someone who is like Mount Tabor among the mountains will come. 

Someone who is like Mount Carmel by the sea will come. 

19 Pack your bags, inhabitants of Egypt, 

because you will be taken away as captives. 

Memphis will become a dreary wasteland, 

a pile of rubble where no one lives. 

20 “Egypt is like a beautiful cow, 

but a horsefly from the north will attack it. 

18 As I live—

this is the King’s declaration;

Yahweh of Hosts is His name.

He will come like Tabor among the mountains

and like Carmel by the sea.

19 Get your bags ready for exile,

inhabitant of Daughter Egypt!

For Memphis will become a desolation,

uninhabited ruins.

20 Egypt is a beautiful young cow,

but a horsefly from the north is coming against her.

18 As I live, says the King,

whose name is the Lord of hosts,

one is coming

like Tabor among the mountains

and like Carmel by the sea.

19 Pack your bags for exile,

sheltered daughter Egypt!

For Memphis shall become a waste,

a ruin, without inhabitant.

20 A beautiful heifer is Egypt—

a gadfly from the north lights upon her.

18 “I am the King.

My name is The Lord Who Rules Over All.

Someone will come who is like Mount Tabor among the mountains.

He is like Mount Carmel by the Mediterranean Sea.

And that is just as sure as I am alive,”

announces the King.

19 “So pack your belongings, you who live in Egypt.

You will be taken away from your land.

Memphis will be completely destroyed.

Its buildings will be broken down.

No one will live there.

20 “Egypt is like a beautiful young cow.

But Nebuchadnezzar is coming against her from the north.

He will bite her like a fly.

18 “As I live,” declares the King

Whose name is the Lord of hosts,

“Surely one shall come who looms up like Tabor among the mountains,

Or like Carmel by the sea.

19 “Make your baggage ready for exile,

O daughter dwelling in Egypt,

For Memphis will become a desolation;

It will even be burned down and bereft of inhabitants.

20 “Egypt is a pretty heifer,

But a horsefly is coming from the north—it is coming!
