12Blessed is the personb who endures testing, because when he* is approved he will receive the crown of life that hec has promised to those who love him. 13No one who is being tempted should say, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be temptedd by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14But each one is tempted when he* is dragged away and enticed by his own desires.
Footnotes
- bLiterally “the man,” but clearly in a generic sense here meaning “someone, a person”
- *Here “when” is supplied as a component of the participle (“is”) which is understood as temporal
- cMost manuscripts read “the Lord” here, while others read “God”
- dLiterally “is without temptation”
- *Here “when” is supplied as a component of the participle (“is dragged away”) which is understood as temporal

ESVEnglish Standard Version
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

NIVNew International Version (2011)
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.

CSBChristian Standard Bible
Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God,” since God is not tempted by evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt anyone. But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire.

NLTNew Living Translation
God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.

KJV 1900King James Version
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
