Hosea 5:1–5

1 “Hear this, you priests!

Pay attention, you Israelites!

Listen, royal house!

This judgment is against you:

You have been a snare at Mizpah,

a net spread out on Tabor.

2 The rebels are knee-deep in slaughter.

I will discipline all of them.

3 I know all about Ephraim;

Israel is not hidden from me.

Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution;

Israel is corrupt.

4 “Their deeds do not permit them

to return to their God.

A spirit of prostitution is in their heart;

they do not acknowledge the Lord.

5 Israel’s arrogance testifies against them;

the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble in their sin;

Judah also stumbles with them.

1 Hear this, O priests!

Pay attention, O house of Israel!

Give ear, O house of the king!

For the judgment is for you;

for you have been a snare at Mizpah

and a net spread upon Tabor.

2 And the revolters have gone deep into slaughter,

but I will discipline all of them.

3 I know Ephraim,

and Israel is not hidden from me;

for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore;

Israel is defiled.

4 Their deeds do not permit them

to return to their God.

For the spirit of whoredom is within them,

and they know not the Lord.

5 The pride of Israel testifies to his face;

Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in his guilt;

Judah also shall stumble with them.

1 Hear ye this, O priests;

And hearken, ye house of Israel;

And give ye ear, O house of the king;

For judgment is toward you,

Because ye have been a snare on Mizpah,

And a net spread upon Tabor.

2 And the revolters are profound to make slaughter,

Though I have been a rebuker of them all.

3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me:

For now, O Ephraim, thou committest whoredom, and Israel is defiled.

4 They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God:

For the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them,

And they have not known the Lord.

5 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face:

Therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity;

Judah also shall fall with them.

1 “Hear this, you priests.

Pay attention, you leaders of Israel.

Listen, you members of the royal family.

Judgment has been handed down against you.

For you have led the people into a snare

by worshiping the idols at Mizpah and Tabor.

2 You have dug a deep pit to trap them at Acacia Grove.

But I will settle with you for what you have done.

3 I know what you are like, O Ephraim.

You cannot hide yourself from me, O Israel.

You have left me as a prostitute leaves her husband;

you are utterly defiled.

4 Your deeds won’t let you return to your God.

You are a prostitute through and through,

and you do not know the Lord.

5 “The arrogance of Israel testifies against her;

Israel and Ephraim will stumble under their load of guilt.

Judah, too, will fall with them.

1 “Hear this, O priests!

Take heed, O house of Israel!

Give ear, O house of the king!

For yours is the judgment,

Because you have been a snare to Mizpah

And a net spread on Tabor.

2 The revolters are deeply involved in slaughter,

Though I rebuke them all.

3 I know Ephraim,

And Israel is not hidden from Me;

For now, O Ephraim, you commit harlotry;

Israel is defiled.

4 “They do not direct their deeds

Toward turning to their God,

For the spirit of harlotry is in their midst,

And they do not know the Lord.

5 The pride of Israel testifies to his face;

Therefore Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity;

Judah also stumbles with them.

1 “Listen, you priests.

Pay attention, people of Israel.

Listen, royal family,

because you will all be judged.

You have been like a trap at Mizpah

and like a net spread out at Mount Tabor.

2 You have done many evil things,

so I will punish you all.

3 I know all about the people of Israel;

what they have done is not hidden from me.

Now that Israel acts like a prostitute,

it has made itself unclean.

4 “They will not give up their deeds

and return to their God.

They are determined to be unfaithful to me;

they do not know the Lord.

5 Israel’s pride testifies against them.

The people of Israel will stumble because of their sin,

and the people of Judah will stumble with them.

1 Hear this, O ye priests, and hearken, O house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king; for unto you pertaineth the judgment; for ye have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor. 2 And the revolters are gone deep in making slaughter; but I am a rebuker of them all. 3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me; for now, O Ephraim, thou hast played the harlot, Israel is defiled. 4 Their doings will not suffer them to turn unto their God; for the spirit of whoredom is within them, and they know not Jehovah. 5 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in their iniquity; Judah also shall stumble with them.

1 Hear this, ye priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ear, O house of the king: for this judgment is for you; for ye have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor. 2 And they have plunged themselves in the corruption of apostasy, but I will be a chastiser of them all. 3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me; for now, Ephraim, thou hast committed whoredom; Israel is defiled. 4 Their doings do not allow them to return unto their God; for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they know not Jehovah. 5 And Israel’s pride doth testify to his face; and Israel and Ephraim shall fall by their iniquity: Judah also shall fall with them.

Pay attention, nation of Israel! 

Open your ears, royal family! 

This is my decision about you. 

You set traps at Mizpah 

and spread out nets on Mount Tabor. 

2 You are deeply involved in sin. 

So I will punish all of you. 

3 I know Ephraim, 

and Israel isn’t a stranger to me. 

Now, Ephraim, you are acting like a prostitute, 

and Israel is unclean.

4 “The wicked things that the people have done 

keep them from returning to their God. 

They have a spirit of prostitution, 

and they don’t know the Lord. 

5 The people of Israel’s arrogance testifies against them. 

Israel and Ephraim stumble because of their sins, 

and Judah stumbles with them. 

1 Hear this, priests!

Pay attention, house of Israel!

Listen, royal house!

For the judgment applies to you

because you have been a snare at Mizpah

and a net spread out on Tabor.

2 Rebels are deeply involved in slaughter;

I will be a punishment for all of them.

3 I know Ephraim,

and Israel is not hidden from Me.

For now, Ephraim,

you have acted promiscuously;

Israel is defiled.

4 Their actions do not allow them

to return to their God,

for a spirit of promiscuity is among them,

and they do not know the Lord.

5 Israel’s arrogance testifies against them.

Both Israel and Ephraim stumble

because of their wickedness;

even Judah will stumble with them.

1 Hear this, O priests!

Give heed, O house of Israel!

Listen, O house of the king!

For the judgment pertains to you,

for you have been a snare at Mizpah

and a net spread upon Tabor

2 and a pit dug deep in Shittim,

but I will punish all of them.

3 I know Ephraim,

and Israel is not hidden from me,

for now, O Ephraim, you have prostituted yourself;

Israel is defiled.

4 Their deeds do not permit them

to return to their God.

For the spirit of prostitution is within them,

and they do not know the Lord.

5 Israel’s pride testifies against him;

Ephraim stumbles in his guilt;

Judah also stumbles with them.

1 “Listen to me, you priests!

Pay attention, people of Israel!

Listen, you members of the royal family!

Here is my decision against you.

You have been like a trap at Mizpah.

You have been like a net spread out on Mount Tabor.

2 You refuse to obey me.

You offer sacrifices to other gods.

So I will punish all of you.

3 People of Ephraim, I know all about you.

What you are doing is not hidden from me.

Now you have joined yourselves to other gods.

You have made yourselves ‘unclean.’

4 “You can’t return to me

because you have done so many evil things.

In your hearts you long to act like prostitutes.

You do not recognize me as the Lord.

5 Israel, your pride witnesses that you are guilty.

People of Ephraim, you trip and fall because you have sinned.

Judah, you fall down along with them.

1 Hear this, O priests!

Give heed, O house of Israel!

Listen, O house of the king!

For the judgment applies to you,

For you have been a snare at Mizpah

And a net spread out on Tabor.

2 The revolters have gone deep in depravity,

But I will chastise all of them.

3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me;

For now, O Ephraim, you have played the harlot,

Israel has defiled itself.

4 Their deeds will not allow them

To return to their God.

For a spirit of harlotry is within them,

And they do not know the Lord.

5 Moreover, the pride of Israel testifies against him,

And Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity;

Judah also has stumbled with them.
