Psalm 51:1–4 — The New International Version (NIV)

Have mercy on me, O God,

according to your unfailing love;

according to your great compassion

blot out my transgressions.

Wash away all my iniquity

and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions,

and my sin is always before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned

and done what is evil in your sight;

so you are right in your verdict

and justified when you judge.

Psalm 51:1–4 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Have mercy on me, O God,

according to your steadfast love;

according to your abundant mercy

blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

and cleanse me from my sin!

For I know my transgressions,

and my sin is ever before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned

and done what is evil in your sight,

so that you may be justified in your words

and blameless in your judgment.

Psalm 51:1–4 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Have mercy on me, O God,

because of your unfailing love.

Because of your great compassion,

blot out the stain of my sins.

Wash me clean from my guilt.

Purify me from my sin.

For I recognize my rebellion;

it haunts me day and night.

Against you, and you alone, have I sinned;

I have done what is evil in your sight.

You will be proved right in what you say,

and your judgment against me is just.

Psalm 51:1–4 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Have mercy upon me, O God,

According to Your lovingkindness;

According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,

Blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

And cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my transgressions,

And my sin is always before me.

Against You, You only, have I sinned,

And done this evil in Your sight—

That You may be found just when You speak,

And blameless when You judge.

Psalm 51:1–4 — New Century Version (NCV)

God, be merciful to me

because you are loving.

Because you are always ready to be merciful,

wipe out all my wrongs.

Wash away all my guilt

and make me clean again.

I know about my wrongs,

and I can’t forget my sin.

You are the only one I have sinned against;

I have done what you say is wrong.

You are right when you speak

and fair when you judge.

Psalm 51:1–4 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:

According to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity,

And cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions;

And my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,

And done that which is evil in thy sight;

That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest,

And be clear when thou judgest.

Psalm 51:1–4 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Be gracious unto me, O God, according to thy loving-kindness; according to the abundance of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me fully from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is continually before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in thy sight; that thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, be clear when thou judgest.

Psalm 51:1–4 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Have pity on me, O God, in keeping with your mercy.

In keeping with your unlimited compassion, wipe out my rebellious acts.

Wash me thoroughly from my guilt,

and cleanse me from my sin.

I admit that I am rebellious.

My sin is always in front of me.

I have sinned against you, especially you.

I have done what you consider evil.

So you hand down justice when you speak,

and you are blameless when you judge.

Psalm 51:1–4 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Be gracious to me, God,

according to Your faithful love;

according to Your abundant compassion,

blot out my rebellion.

Wash away my guilt

and cleanse me from my sin.

For I am conscious of my rebellion,

and my sin is always before me.

Against You—You alone—I have sinned

and done this evil in Your sight.

So You are right when You pass sentence;

You are blameless when You judge.

Psalm 51:1–4 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Have mercy on me, O God,

according to your steadfast love;

according to your abundant mercy

blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions,

and my sin is ever before me.

Against you, you alone, have I sinned,

and done what is evil in your sight,

so that you are justified in your sentence

and blameless when you pass judgment.

Psalm 51:1–4 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Be gracious to me, O God, according to your loyal love.

According to your abundant mercies,

blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

and from my sin cleanse me.

For I myself know my transgressions,

and my sin is ever before me.

Against you, only you, I have sinned

and have done this evil in your eyes,

so that you are correct when you speak,

you are blameless when you judge.

Psalm 51:1–4 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

God, show me your favor

in keeping with your faithful love.

Because your love is so tender and kind,

wipe out my lawless acts.

Wash away all of the evil things I’ve done.

Make me pure from my sin.

I know the lawless acts I’ve committed.

I can’t forget my sin.

You are the one I’ve really sinned against.

I’ve done what is evil in your sight.

So you are right when you sentence me.

You are fair when you judge me.

Psalm 51:1–4 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;

According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity

And cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions,

And my sin is ever before me.

Against You, You only, I have sinned

And done what is evil in Your sight,

So that You are justified when You speak

And blameless when You judge.
