Psalm 120–134
*A Song of degrees.
1 In amy distress I cried unto the Lord,
And he heard me.
2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips,
*And from a deceitful tongue.
3 ||What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be †done unto thee,
Thou false tongue?
4 ||bSharp arrows of the cmighty,
With coals of ejuniper.
5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in fMesech,
That I dwell in the tents of gKedar!
6 My soul hath hlong dwelt
With him that hateth peace.
7 iI am ||for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
*A Song of degrees.
1 ||I will alift up mine eyes unto aathe hills,
From whence cometh my help.
2 bMy help cometh from the Lord,
cWhich made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer dthy foot to be moved:
He that ekeepeth thee will not fslumber.
4 Behold, he that ekeepeth Israel
Shall neither fgslumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy ekeeper:
The Lord is thy hshade iupon thy right hand.
6 kThe sun shall not lsmite thee by day,
Nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall epreserve thee from all evil:
8 The Lord shall epreserve nthy going out and thy coming in
From this time forth, and even for evermore.
1 I was glad when they said unto me,
Let us go ainto the house of the Lord.
Within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is bbuilded
As a city that cis compact together:
4 dWhither the tribes go up, the tribes of the eLord,
Unto fthe testimony of Israel,
To give thanks unto the name of the Lord.
5 For gthere †are set thrones of judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
6 hPray for the peace of Jerusalem:
They shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy iwalls,
And prosperity within thy ipalaces.
8 For my brethren and companions’ sakes,
I will now say, kPeace be within thee.
9 Because of the house of the Lord our God
I will lseek thy good.
*A Song of degrees.
1 Unto thee alift I up mine eyes,
O thou that bdwellest in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters,
And as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress;
So our eyes wait upon the Lord our God,
Until that he have mercy upon us.
3 cHave mercy upon us, O Lord, chave mercy upon us:
For we are dexceedingly filled with econtempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled
With the fscorning of gthose that are at ease,
And with the econtempt of the proud.
1 aIf it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
bNow may Israel say;
2 aIf it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
When men rose up against us:
3 Then they had cswallowed us up cdquick,
When their wrath was kindled against us:
4 Then ddthe waters had eoverwhelmed us,
The stream had gone over our soul:
Had gone over our soul.
Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7 Our soul is escaped as a bird fout of the snare of the fowlers:
The snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8 gOur help is in the name of the Lord,
hWho made heaven and earth.
*A Song of degrees.
1 They that atrust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion,
Which bcannot be removed, but cabideth for ever.
2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem,
dSo the Lord is round about his people
From henceforth even for ever.
3 For ethe rod of †the wicked shall not frest upon the glot of the righteous;
Lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.
4 hDo good, O Lord, unto those that be good,
And to them that are iupright in their hearts.
5 As for such as kturn aside unto their lcrooked ways,
The Lord shall lead them forth with mthe workers of iniquity:
But npeace shall be upon Israel.
*A Song of degrees.
1 When the Lord †aturned again the captivity of Zion,
bWe were like them that dream.
2 Then cwas our mouth filled with laughter,
And our tongue with singing:
Then said they among the heathen,
dThe Lord †hath done great things for them.
3 The Lord hath done great things for us;
Whereof we are glad.
4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord,
eAs the streams in fthe south.
5 gThey that sow in tears shall reap in ||joy.
6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing ||hprecious seed,
Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
*A Song of degrees ||for Solomon.
1 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain †that build it:
Except athe Lord keep the city, the watchman bwaketh but in vain.
2 It is vain for you cto drise up early, to dsit up celate,
To feat the bread of gsorrows:
For hso he giveth his ibeloved sleep.
3 Lo, kchildren are an heritage of the Lord:
And lthe fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mmighty man;
So are nchildren of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that †hath his quiver full of them:
oThey shall not be ashamed,
But they ||shall pspeak with the enemies in qthe gate.
*A Song of degrees.
1 abBlessed is every one that feareth the Lord;
bThat walketh in his ways.
2 cFor thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands:
Happy shalt thou be, and it shall be cwell with thee.
3 Thy wife shall be das a fruitful vine
eBy the sides of thine house:
Thy children flike olive plants
Round about thy table.
4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.
5 gThe Lord shall bless thee ghout of Zion:
And thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem
All the days of thy life.
6 Yea, thou shalt isee kthy children’s children,
And lpeace upon Israel.
*A Song of degrees.
1 ||Many a time have they aafflicted me from bmy youth,
cMay Israel now say:
2 ||Many a time have they aafflicted me from my youth:
dYet they have not prevailed against me.
3 ddThe plowers plowed upon my back:
They made long their efurrows.
He hath cut asunder the fcords of the wicked.
5 Let them all be gconfounded and gturned back
That hate Zion.
6 Let them be has the igrass upon the housetops,
Which iwithereth afore it groweth up:
7 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand;
Nor he that bindeth sheaves his kbosom.
8 Neither do they which go by say,
lThe blessing of the Lord be upon you:
mWe bless you in the name of the Lord.
*A Song of degrees.
1 aOut of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.
bLet thine ears be attentive to bbthe voice of my supplications.
3 If thou, cLord, shouldest dmark iniquities,
4 But there is gforgiveness with thee,
hThat thou mayest be feared.
5 iI wait for the Lord, kmy soul doth wait,
And lin his word do I hope.
6 My soul waiteth for the Lord
More than they mthat watch for nthe morning:
||I say, more than they that watch for the morning.
7 oLet Israel hope in the Lord:
For pwith the Lord there is mercy,
And with him is plenteous redemption.
8 And qhe shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.
1 Lord, aMy heart is not haughty, nor bmine eyes lofty:
Neither cdo I †exercise myself in great matters, or in things too †high for me.
2 Surely I have behaved and quieted †myself,
dAs a child that is weaned of his mother:
My soul is even as a weaned child.
3 eLet Israel hope in the Lord
†From henceforth and for ever.
*A Song of degrees.
And all his afflictions:
And aavowed unto bthe mighty God of Jacob;
3 Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house,
Nor go up into my bed;
4 I will not cgive sleep to mine eyes,
Or cslumber to mine eyelids,
5 Until dI find out a place for the Lord,
†An habitation for bthe mighty God of Jacob.
6 Lo, we heard of eit at fEphratah:
gWe found it in the fields hof the wood.
7 We will go into his itabernacles:
jWe will worship at his kfootstool.
8 lArise, O Lord, into mthy rest;
Thou, and the enark of thy strength.
9 oLet thy priests be clothed with righteousness;
And let thy psaints shout for joy.
10 For thy servant David’s sake
qTurn not away the face of rthine anointed.
11 sThe Lord thath sworn in truth unto David;
tHe will not turn from it;
uOf the fruit of †thy body will I set upon thy throne.
12 vIf thy children will keep my covenant
And my testimony that I shall teach them,
Their children shall also wsit upon thy throne for evermore.
13 xFor the Lord hath chosen Zion;
He hath desired it for his habitation.
14 This is ymy rest for ever:
Here zwill I dwell; for I have desired it.
15 aI will ||abundantly bless her provision:
I bwill satisfy her poor with bread.
16 cI will also clothe her priests with salvation:
And her desaints shall shout aloud for joy.
17 There will I fmake the horn of David to bud:
I have ordained ga ||lamp for hmine anointed.
18 His enemies will I iclothe with shame:
But upon himself shall his crown flourish.
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For abrethren to dwell †together in unity!
2 It is like bthe precious ointment cupon the head,
That ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard:
That went down to the dskirts of his garments;
3 As the dew of eHermon, and as the dew that descended upon the fmountains of gZion:
For there the Lord hcommanded the blessing,
Even life for evermore.
*A Song of degrees.
1 Behold, bless ye the Lord, all ye aservants of the Lord,
Which bby night acstand in the house of the Lord.
2 dLift up your hands ||in ethe sanctuary,
And bless the Lord.
3 The Lord fthat made heaven and earth
gBless thee out of Zion.
