John 17:11–19:11
11 And now cI am no more in the world, but dthese are in the world, and I come to thee. eHoly Father, fkeep gthrough thine own name those hwhom thou hast given me, ithat they may be one, kas we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I fkept them gin thy name: those hthat thou gavest me I have kept, and lnone of them is lost, but mthe son of perdition; nthat the scripture might be fulfilled. 13 oAnd now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have pmy joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 qI have given them thy word; and rthe world hath hated them, sbecause they are not of the world, even as tI am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest fkeep them from uthe evil. 16 wThey are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 xSanctify them ythrough thy truth: zthy word is atruth. 18 bAs thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I csanctify myself, that they also might be ||dsanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me ethrough their word; 21 That fthey all may be one; as gthou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that hthey also may be one in us: that the world may ibelieve that kthou hast sent me. 22 And lthe glory which thou gavest me mI have given them; hthat they may be one, even as we are one: 23 gmI in them, and thou in me, that nthey may be made perfect in one; and othat the world may know that kthou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24 Father, I will that pthey also, qwhom thou hast given me, be with me where rI am; that sthey may behold my glory, lwhich thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me tbefore the foundation of the world. 25 O urighteous Father, vthe world hath not known thee: but wI have known thee, and these xhave known that kthou hast sent me. 26 And yI have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love zwherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, gand I in them.
18 When Jesus had spoken these words, ahe went forth with his disciples over bthe brook Cedron, awhere was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. 2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew cthe place: dfor Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. 3 eJudas then, having received a fband of men and gofficers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and htorches and weapons. 4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, iWhom seek ye? 5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. 7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: 9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, kOf them which thou gavest me have I lost none. 10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. 11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: lthe cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
12 Then fmthe band and mthe captain and gofficers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, 13 And nled him away to oAnnas first; for he was father in law to pCaiaphas, which was the high priest qthat same year. 14 ||Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, rthat it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 sAnd Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into tthe palace of the high priest. 16 uBut Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto xher that kept the door, and brought in Peter. 17 Then saith ythe damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not. 18 And the servants and gofficers stood there, who had made za fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
19 aThe high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. 20 Jesus answered him, I spake bopenly to the world; I ever taught cin the synagogue, and din the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and ein secret have I said nothing. 21 fWhy askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, gthey know what I said. 22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the hofficers which stood by istruck Jesus ||with the palm of his hand, saying, kAnswerest thou the high priest so? 23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? 24 Now Annas lhad sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
25 mAnd Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. nThey said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. 26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman owhose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? 27 Peter then denied again: and immediately pthe cock crew.
28 qThen led they Jesus from rCaiaphas unto ||the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, slest they should be defiled; but tthat they might eat the passover. 29 uPilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? 30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a xmalefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. 31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and yjudge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: 32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, zsignifying what death he should die. 33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, aArt thou the King of the Jews? 34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? 35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? 36 Jesus answered, bMy kingdom is not cof this world: if my kingdom were cof this world, then would dmy servants efight, that I should not fbe delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, gThou sayest that I am a king. hTo this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should ibear witness unto kthe truth. lEvery one that is of the truth heareth my voice. 38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he mwent out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, nI find in him no fault at all. 39 oBut ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? 40 Then cried they all pagain, saying, qNot this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was ra robber.
19 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and ascourged him. 2 And bthe soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him ca purple robe, 3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they dsmote him with their hands. 4 Pilate therefore ewent forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that efI find no fault in him. 5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! 6 When the chief priests therefore and gofficers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for fI find no fault in him. 7 The Jews answered him, hWe have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because ihe made himself the Son of God.
8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, khe was the more afraid; 9 And went lagain into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, mWhence art thou? But nJesus gave him no answer. 10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? 11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no opower at all against me, except it were pgiven thee qfrom above: therefore rhe that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
