Isaiah 60–62
60Arise, a||shine; for thy light is come, And bthe glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. 2 For, behold, cdthe darkness shall cover the earth, And dgross darkness the people: But the Lord shall arise upon thee, And behis glory shall be seen upon thee. 3 And fthe Gentiles shall come to thy light, And gkings to the brightness of thy rising. 4 hLift up thine eyes round about, and see: hAll they gather themselves together, ithey come to thee: jThy sons shall come from far, And thy daughters shall be nursed kat thy side. 5 Then thou shalt see, and lflow together, And thine heart shall fear, and mbe enlarged; Because nthe ||oabundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, The ||fmforces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. 6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, pThe dromedaries of qMidian and rEphah; All they from sSheba shall come: They shall bring tgold and incense; And they shall ushew forth the praises of the Lord. 7 All the flocks of vKedar shall be gathered together unto thee, The rams of wNebaioth shall minister unto thee: xThey shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, And I will yglorify yythe house of bmy glory. 8 zWho are these that fly as a cloud, And aas the doves to their windows? 9 Surely bcthe isles shall wait for me, And dthe ships of cTarshish first, eTo bring fthy sons from far, gTheir silver and their gold with them, hUnto the name of the Lord thy God, And ito the Holy One of Israel, ibecause he hath glorified thee. 10 And kthe sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, And ltheir kings shall minister unto thee: For min my wrath I smote thee, But nin my favour have I had mercy on thee. 11 Therefore othy gates shall be open continually; They shall not be shut day nor night; That men may bring unto thee the ||forces of the Gentiles, And that lptheir kings may be brought. 12 For qthe nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; Yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted. 13 rThe glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, sThe fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, To tbeautify the place of my sanctuary; And I will make uthe place of my feet glorious. 14 vThe sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; And all they that despised thee shall wbow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; And they shall call thee, xThe city of the Lord, yThe Zion of the Holy One of Israel. 15 Whereas thou hast been zforsaken and ahated, So that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal bexcellency, A joy of many generations. 16 cThou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, And cshalt suck the breast of kings: And cthou shalt know that dI the Lord am thy Saviour cAnd thy Redeemer, ddthe mighty One of Jacob. 17 eFor brass I will bring gold, And for iron I will bring silver, And for wood brass, And for stones iron: I will also make thy officers fpeace, And thine gexactors righteousness. 18 hViolence shall no more be heard in thy land, iWasting nor destruction within thy borders; But thou shalt call jthy walls Salvation, And thy gates kPraise. 19 lThe sun shall be no more thy light by day; lNeither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: But the Lord shall be unto thee man everlasting light, And nthy God thy oglory. 20 pThy sun shall no more go down; Neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: For the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, And qthe days of thy mourning shall be ended. 21 rThy people also shall be all righteous: sThey shall inherit the land for ever, tThe branch of my planting, uthe work of my hands, tvthat I may be glorified. 22 xA little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a ystrong nation: I the Lord will zhasten it in his time.
61aThe Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; Because the Lord bhath anointed me cto preach good tidings unto dthe meek; He hath sent me eto bind up fthe brokenhearted, gTo proclaim liberty to the captives, And hthe opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 iTo proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And kthe day of vengeance of our God; lTo comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto lthem that mourn in Zion, mTo give unto them nbeauty for ashes, oThe oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they might be called ptrees of righteousness, qThe planting of the Lord, qrthat he might be glorified.
4 And sthey shall build the old wastes, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the waste cities, tThe desolations of many generations. 5 And ustrangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And vthe sons of uthe alien shall be wyour plowmen and your vinedressers. 6 But xye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: Men shall call you the Ministers of our God: yYe shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And zin their glory shall ye boast yourselves.
7 For your shame aye shall have double; And for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: bTherefore in their land athey shall possess the double: Everlasting joy shall be unto them. 8 For cI the Lord love judgment, dI hate robbery for burnt offering; And I will direct their ework in truth, And fI will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 And gtheir seed shall be known among the Gentiles, And htheir offspring among the people: All that see them shall acknowledge them, iThat they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed. 10 jI will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For khe hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with lthe robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom †decketh himself with mornaments, And nas a bride oadorneth herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, And as the garden causeth pthe things that are sown in it to spring forth; So the Lord God will cause qrighteousness and rpraise to spring forth Before all the nations.
62For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, Until athe righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, And the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. 2 And bthe Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, And call kings thy glory: And thou shalt be called by da new name, Which the mouth of the Lord shall name. 3 Thou shalt also be ea crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, And a royal fdiadem in the hand of thy God. 4 gThou shalt no more be termed hForsaken; Neither shall thy land any more be termed iDesolate: But thou shalt be called ||Hephzi-bah, And thy land ||Beulah: For the Lord delighteth in thee, And thy land shall be married.
5 For kas a young man marrieth a virgin, So shall lthy sons marry thee: And †as mthe bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, So nshall thy God rejoice over thee. 6 I have set owatchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, Which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ||qYe that make mention of the Lord, Keep not silence, 7 And give him no †rest, Till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem ra praise in the earth. 8 The Lord hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, †Surely sI will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; And tthe sons of the stranger ttshall not drink thy uwine, for the which thou hast laboured: 9 But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and vpraise the Lord; And they that have brought it together shall drink it vin the courts of my holiness.
10 Go through, go through the gates; wxprepare ye the way of the people; xCast up, cast up the highway; ygather out the stones; zLift up a standard for the people. 11 Behold, the Lord hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, aSay ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, bthy salvation cometh; cBehold, his reward is with him, cAnd his ||work before him. 12 And dthey shall call them, eThe holy people, fThe redeemed of the Lord: And thou shalt be called, Sought out, gA city not forsaken.
