Hebrews 9:14–13:25
14 How much more dshall the blood of Christ, who ethrough the eternal Spirit foffered himself without ||gspot to God, hpurge your conscience ifrom dead works kto serve lthe living God?
15 And for this cause he is mthe mediator of the nnew otestament, pthat by means of death, ffor qthe redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, rthey which are called smight receive the stpromise of eternal uinheritance. 16 For where a otestament is, there must also of necessity ||be the death of the testator. 17 vFor oa testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. 18 Whereupon neither the first vvtestament was ||wdedicated without blood. 19 For xwhen Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, yhe took the blood of zcalves and of goats, with awater, and ||abscarlet wool, and achyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, 20 Saying, dThis is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. 21 Moreover ehe sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of fthe ministry. 22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and gwithout shedding of blood is no remission. 23 It was therefore necessary that hthe patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For iChrist is not entered into jthe holy places kmade with hands, which are lthe figures of mthe true; but ninto heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God ofor us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, pas the high priest entereth into ithe holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered qsince the foundation of the world: but now ronce sin the end of the world sshath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And as it is appointed unto men tonce to die, but uafter this the judgment: 28 So vChrist was ronce offered to bear the sins of xmany; and unto them that ylook for him shall he appear the second time zwithout sin unto salvation.
10 For the law having aa shadow bof good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never cwith those sacrifices which they offered year by year dcontinually cmake the comers thereunto eperfect. 2 For then ||would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But fin those sacrifices there is ga remembrance again made of sins hevery year. 4 For iit is not possible that kthe blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5 Wherefore lwhen he cometh into the world, he saith, mSacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but na body ||hast thou prepared me: 6 In oburnt offerings and psacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 8 Above when he said, qSacrifice and offering and oburnt offerings and poffering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9 Then said he, rLo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will swe are sanctified through the offering of nthe body of Jesus Christ tonce for all. 11 And every priest standeth udaily wministering and offering oftentimes xthe same sacrifices, iwhich can never take away sins: 12 But this man, yafter he had offered one sacrifice for sins dfor ever, zsat down on the right hand of God; 13 aFrom henceforth expecting btill his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering che hath perfected cfor ever dthem that are sanctified. 15 Whereof ethe Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16 fThis is the covenant that I will gmake with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 g†And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
19 hHaving therefore, brethren, ||boldness to enter into ithe holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living kway, which he hath ||consecrated for us, through lthe veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having man high priest over nthe house of God; 22 oLet us draw near with a true heart in pfull assurance of faith, qhaving our hearts rsprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies swashed rwith pure water. 23 tLet us hold fast the uprofession of our vfaith without wavering; (for whe is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another xto provoke unto love and to good works: 25 yNot forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, zas the manner of some is; but xexhorting one another: and aso much the more, as ye see bthe day approaching.
26 For cif we sin dwilfully eafter that we have received fthe knowledge of the truth, gthere remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and hfiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 iHe that jdespised Moses’ law kdied without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 lOf how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, mwho hath trodden under foot nthe Son of God, and ohath counted pthe blood of the qcovenant, wherewith he was rsanctified, an sunholy thing, tand hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, uVengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, vThe Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is wa fearful thing to fall into the hands of xthe living God. 32 But ycall to remembrance the former days, in which, zafter ye were illuminated, aye endured a great bfight of afflictions; 33 Partly, whilst cye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst aye became dcompanions of them that were so used. 34 For ye ddhad compassion of me ein my bonds, and ftook joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing ||in yourselves that ye have gin heaven ha better and an enduring substance. 35 Cast not away therefore your iconfidence, kwhich hath great lrecompence of reward. 36 For mye have need of patience, that, after ye have done nthe will of God, oye might preceive othe promise. 37 For qyet a little while, and rhe that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38 Now sthe just shall live by faith: but if any man tdraw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of uthem who tdraw back unto perdition; but of them that wbelieve xto the saving of the soul.
11 Now faith is the ||substance of things hoped for, athe evidence of bthings not seen. 2 For cby it dthe elders eobtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that fthe worlds were gframed by hthe word of God, so that things which are seen iwere not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith jAbel offered unto God a more excellent ksacrifice than Cain, by which he eobtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his kgifts: and by it he lbeing dead ||yet mspeaketh. 5 By faith nEnoch was translated that he should not osee death; pand was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he ehad this testimony, nqthat he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for rhe that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is sa rewarder of them that tdiligently seek him. 7 By faith uNoah, vbeing warned of God of things not seen as yet, ||wmoved with fear, xprepared an ark yto the saving of his house; by the which zhe condemned the world, and became heir of athe righteousness which is by faith. 8 By faith bAbraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he csojourned in the land dof promise, as in a strange country, edwelling in tabernacles fwith Isaac and Jacob, gthe heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for ha city iwhich hath foundations, kwhose builder and maker is God. 11 Through faith also lSara herself received strength to conceive seed, and mwas delivered of a child when she was past age, nbecause she judged ohim faithful pwho had promised. 12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him qas good as dead, so many rsas the stars of the sky in multitude, and sas the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. 13 These all died †in faith, tnot having received the promises, but uhaving seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and vembraced them, and wconfessed that they were xstrangers and ypilgrims on the earth. 14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now they desire za better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore zzGod is not ashamed ato be called their God: for he hath bprepared for them ca city. 17 By faith dAbraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received ethe promises offered up fhis only begotten son, 18 ||Of whom it was said, ffThat in Isaac shall thy seed be called: 19 Accounting that God gwas able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a hfigure. 20 By faith iIsaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. 21 By faith kJacob, when he was a dying, kblessed both the sons of Joseph; and lworshipped, leaning upon the top of mhis staff. 22 By faith nJoseph, when he died, ||made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and ogave commandment concerning his bones. 23 By faith pMoses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a qproper child; and they were not afraid of rthe king’s commandment. 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called sthe son of Pharaoh’s daughter; 25 tChoosing rather to suffer affliction with…
