Daniel 9–12
9 *aIn the first year of bDarius the son of cAhasuerus, of the seed of dthe Medes, ||which was made king over the realm of ethe Chaldeans; 2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to fJeremiah the prophet, gthat he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. 3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek hby prayer and isupplications, hkwith fasting, and lsackcloth, and lashes: 4 And hI mprayed unto the Lord my God, and mnmade my confession, and said,
oO Lord, opthe great and dreadful God, oqkeeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; 5 rWe have sinned, and rhave committed iniquity, and rhave done wickedly, and rrhave rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: 6 sNeither have we hearkened unto tthy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name uzto our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7 O Lord, vrighteousness ||belongeth unto thee, but vzunto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, wthat are near, and that are far off, through all the countries xwhither thou hast driven them, ybecause of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee. 8 O Lord, vzto us belongeth confusion of face, uato our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because bwe have sinned against thee. 9 cTo the Lord our God belong mercies and dforgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; 10 efNeither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, fto walk in his laws, which he set before us by ehis servants the prophets. 11 Yea, gall Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, hthat they might not obey thy voice; therefore ithe curse kis poured upon us, and the oath lthat is written in the law of Moses llthe servant of God, bhbecause we have sinned against him. 12 And mhe hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against nour judges that judged us, oby bringing upon us a great evil: mfor under the whole heaven phath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem. 13 As lmit is written in the law of Moses, qall this evil is come upon us: ryet †made we not our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and sunderstand thy truth. 14 Therefore thath the Lord watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for uthe Lord our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for ewe obeyed not his voice. 15 vAnd now, O Lord our God, vwthat hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt xwith a mighty hand, and vhast †ygotten thee renown, as at this day; zwe have sinned, we have done wickedly. 16 O Lord, aaccording to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, bthy holy mountain: cbecause for our sins, and dfor the iniquities of our fathers, eJerusalem and thy people fare become a reproach fgto all that are about us. 17 Now therefore, O our God, hhear the prayer of thy servant, and hhis supplications, and icause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary kthat is desolate, lfor the Lord’s sake. 18 O my God, mincline thine ear, and hear; mopen thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city †which is called by thy name: for we do not †present our hsupplications before thee nfor our orighteousnesses, but for thy great mercies. 19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; pdefer not, for lqthine own sake, O my God: for rthy city and thy people are called by thy name.
20 And swhiles I was speaking, and tpraying, and tconfessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for bthe holy mountain of my God; 21 Yea, swhiles I was speaking in prayer, even uthe man vGabriel, vwhom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly †swiftly, wtouched me xabout the time of the evening oblation. 22 And yhe informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth †to give thee skill and understanding. 23 sAt the beginning of thy hsupplications the †commandment came forth, and zI am come to shew thee; afor thou art †greatly beloved: therefore bunderstand the matter, and consider the vision. 24 *Seventy cweeks are determined upon thy people and upon dthy holy city, ||to finish ethe transgression, and ||fto make an end of sins, and gto make reconciliation for iniquity, and to hbring in everlasting righteousness, and ito seal up the vision and †prophecy, and kto anoint lthe most Holy. 25 bKnow therefore and understand, that mfrom the going forth of the commandment ||to restore and to build Jerusalem nunto othe Messiah pthe Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street †shall be built again, and the ||wall, qeven †in troublous times. 26 And rafter threescore and two weeks sshall oMessiah be cut off, ||*tbut not for himself: ||and uthe people of the prince that shall come vshall destroy the city and wthe sanctuary; and xthe end thereof shall be ywith a flood, and unto xthe end of the war ||desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm ||zzthe covenant with amany for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, *and ||for bthe overspreading of cabominations he shall make it desolate, deven until the consummation, and dthat determined eshall be poured ||upon fthe desolate.
10 *aIn the third year of Cyrus bking of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, cwhose name was called Belteshazzar; and dthe thing was true, but ethe time appointed fwas †long: and ghe understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. 2 In those days I Daniel was mourning hthree †full weeks. 3 I ate no †pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, ineither did I janoint myself at all, till hthree whole weeks were fulfilled. 4 And in the four and twentieth day of kthe first month, as I was lby the side of the great river, which is mHiddekel; 5 Then nI lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold o†a certain man pclothed in linen, qwhose loins were girded with rfine gold of sUphaz: 6 His body also was tlike the beryl, and uhis face vas the appearance of lightning, and whis eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and xyhis zfeet like in colour to polished brass, and yathe voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. 7 And bI Daniel alone saw the vision: for bthe men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. 8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and cthere remained no strength in me: for my ||dcomeliness was turned in me into corruption, and eI retained no strength. 9 Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, fthen was I in a deep sleep on my face, and fmy face toward the ground. 10 And, behold, fgan hand touched me, which †set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. 11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, †a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and †hstand upright: for iunto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood ktrembling. 12 Then said he unto me, lFear not, Daniel: for mfrom the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and nto chasten thyself before thy God, mthy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13 But othe prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me pone and twenty days: but, lo, qMichael, one of ||the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people rin the latter days: for syet the vision is for tmany days. 15 And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set umy face toward the ground, and vI became dumb. 16 And, behold, wone xlike the similitude of the sons of men gytouched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and ceI have retained no strength. 17 For how can ||the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me. 18 Then there came again and gtouched me wone like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, 19 And said, zO man greatly beloved, afear not: peace be unto thee, bbe strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.
20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with cthe prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of dGrecia shall come. 21 But I will shew thee ethat which is noted in the scripture of ftruth: and there is none that †holdeth with me in these things, but cMichael your prince.
11 Also I ain the first year of aDarius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him.
2 And now will I shew thee bthe truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of cGrecia. 3 And da mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and edo according to his will. 4 And when he shall stand up, fhis kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided ftoward gthe four winds of heaven; and not to hhis posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.
5 And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion. 6 And in the end of years they †shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make †an agreement: but she ishall not retain the power of the…
