Amos 1:11–13

11 This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Edom,

even for four, I will not relent.

Because he pursued his brother with a sword

and slaughtered the women of the land,

because his anger raged continually

and his fury flamed unchecked,

12 I will send fire on Teman

that will consume the fortresses of Bozrah.”

13 This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Ammon,

even for four, I will not relent.

Because he ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead

in order to extend his borders,

11 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of Edom,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because he pursued his brother with the sword

and cast off all pity,

and his anger tore perpetually,

and he kept his wrath forever.

12 So I will send a fire upon Teman,

and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.”

13 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of the Ammonites,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead,

that they might enlarge their border.

11 This is what the Lord says:

“The people of Edom have sinned again and again,

and I will not let them go unpunished!

They chased down their relatives, the Israelites, with swords,

showing them no mercy.

In their rage, they slashed them continually

and were unrelenting in their anger.

12 So I will send down fire on Teman,

and the fortresses of Bozrah will be destroyed.”

13 This is what the Lord says:

“The people of Ammon have sinned again and again,

and I will not let them go unpunished!

When they attacked Gilead to extend their borders,

they ripped open pregnant women with their swords.

11 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of Edom, and for four,

I will not turn away its punishment,

Because he pursued his brother with the sword,

And cast off all pity;

His anger tore perpetually,

And he kept his wrath forever.

12 But I will send a fire upon Teman,

Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.”

13 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of the people of Ammon, and for four,

I will not turn away its punishment,

Because they ripped open the women with child in Gilead,

That they might enlarge their territory.

11 This is what the Lord says:

“For the many crimes of Edom,

I will punish them.

They hunted down their relatives, the Israelites, with the sword,

showing them no mercy.

They were angry all the time

and kept on being very angry.

12 So I will send fire on the city of Teman

that will even destroy the strong buildings of Bozrah.”

13 This is what the Lord says:

“For the many crimes of Ammon,

I will punish them.

They ripped open the pregnant women in Gilead

so they could take over that land

and make their own country larger.

11 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever. 12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

13 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they may enlarge their border.

11 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity; and his anger did tear continually, and he kept his wrath for ever. 12 And I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the palaces of Bozrah. 13 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.

11 This is what the Lord says: 

Because Edom has committed three crimes, and now a fourth crime, 

I will not change my plans. 

The Edomites pursued their relatives with swords. 

They refused to show any compassion to them. 

Their anger was unstoppable. 

They refused to control their fury. 

12 I will send a fire on Teman 

and burn down the palaces of Bozrah. 

13 This is what the Lord says: 

Because Ammon has committed three crimes, and now a fourth crime, 

I will not change my plans. 

The Ammonites enlarged their territory 

by ripping open pregnant women in Gilead. 

11 The Lord says:

I will not relent from punishing Edom

for three crimes, even four,

because he pursued his brother with the sword.

He stifled his compassion,

his anger tore at them continually,

and he harbored his rage incessantly.

12 Therefore, I will send fire against Teman,

and it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.

13 The Lord says:

I will not relent from punishing the Ammonites

for three crimes, even four,

because they ripped open

the pregnant women of Gilead

in order to enlarge their territory.

11 Thus says the Lord:

For three transgressions of Edom,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because he pursued his brother with the sword

and cast off all pity;

he maintained his anger perpetually

and kept his wrath forever.

12 So I will send a fire on Teman,

and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.

13 Thus says the Lord:

For three transgressions of the Ammonites,

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead

in order to enlarge their territory.

11 Thus says Yahweh: “For three transgressions of Edom and for four I will not revoke the punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword! He stifled his compassion and his anger tore them apart continually, and he kept his rage forever. 12 So I will send a fire against Teman and it will devour the citadel fortresses of Bozrah.”

13 Thus says Yahweh: “For three transgressions of Ammon and for four I will not revoke the punishment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their territory!

11 The Lord says,

“The people of Edom have sinned again and again.

So I will punish them.

They chased Israel with swords

that were ready to strike them down.

They did not show them any pity.

They were angry all the time.

Their anger blazed out.

It could not be stopped.

12 So I will send fire to destroy the city of Teman.

It will burn up Bozrah’s forts.”

13 The Lord says,

“The people of Ammon have sinned again and again.

So I will punish them.

They ripped open the pregnant women in Gilead.

They wanted to add land to their territory.

11 Thus says the Lord,

“For three transgressions of Edom and for four

I will not revoke its punishment,

Because he pursued his brother with the sword,

While he stifled his compassion;

His anger also tore continually,

And he maintained his fury forever.

12 “So I will send fire upon Teman

And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.”

13 Thus says the Lord,

“For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon and for four

I will not revoke its punishment,

Because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead

In order to enlarge their borders.
