Psalm 72:title–83:18
1 Give the king thy judgments, O God,
*And athy righteousness unto bthe king’s son.
2 cHe shall judge thy people with righteousness,
And thy poor with judgment.
3 The dmountains shall bring epeace to the people,
And the dlittle hills, by erighteousness.
4 cHe shall judge the poor of the people,
He shall save the children of the needy,
And shall break in pieces the oppressor.
5 They shall fear thee fas long as the sun
And moon endure, throughout all generations.
6 gHe shall come down like rain upon hthe mown grass:
As ishowers that water the earth.
7 In his days kshall the righteous flourish;
And labundance of peace m†so long as the moon endureth.
8 nHe shall have dominion also from sea to sea,
And from nthe river unto othe ends of the earth.
9 pThey that dwell in the wilderness shall ppbow before him;
And his enemies qshall lick the dust.
10 rThe kings of sTarshish and of tthe isles shall bring upresents:
The kings of xSheba and ySeba shall offer zgifts.
11 Yea, all kings ashall fall down before him:
All nations shall serve him.
12 For he shall deliver the needy bwhen he crieth;
The poor also, band him that hath no helper.
13 He shall spare the poor and needy,
And shall save the souls of the needy.
14 He shall redeem their soul from cdeceit and violence:
And dprecious shall their blood be in his sight.
15 And he shall live, and to him †shall be given of the gold of eSheba:
Prayer also shall be made ffor him continually;
And daily shall he be praised.
16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains;
The fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon:
gAnd hthey of the city ishall flourish klike grass of the earth.
17 His name †shall endure for ever:
†His name shall be continued as long as the sun:
And lmen shall be blessed in him:
mAll nations shall call him blessed.
18 tnBlessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
Who oonly pdoeth wondrous things.
19 And blessed be qhis glorious name for ever:
rAnd let the whole earth be filled with his glory; sAmen, and Amen.
20 tThe uprayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
1 ||Truly God is good to aIsrael,
Even to such as are †of a clean heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost bgone;
My steps had well nigh slipped.
3 cFor I was denvious at the efoolish,
When I saw the fprosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no gbands in their death:
But their strength is †firm.
5 They are not †in trouble as other men;
Neither are they hplagued †like other men.
6 nTherefore pride compasseth them about ias a chain;
Violence covereth them jas a garment.
7 kTheir eyes stand out with fatness:
†They have more than heart could wish.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression:
9 They set their mouth against the heavens,
And their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 nTherefore his people return hither:
And waters of a full ocup pare wrung out to them.
11 And they say, qHow doth God know?
And is there knowledge in the most High?
12 Behold, these are the ungodly,
rWho prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
13 sVerily I have cleansed my heart in vain,
And twashed my hands in innocency.
14 For all the day long have I been hplagued,
And †chastened ttevery morning.
15 If I say, I will speak uthus;
Behold, I should offend against vthe generation of thy children.
16 When I wthought to know this,
†It was too painful for me;
17 Until I went into xthe sanctuary of God;
Then yunderstood I ztheir end.
18 sSurely thou didst set them in aslippery places:
Thou castedst them down into bdestruction.
19 How are they brought into desolation, cas in a moment!
They are utterly dconsumed with eterrors.
20 fAs a dream when one awaketh;
So, O Lord, gwhen thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
And I was pricked in my reins.
22 So hfoolish was I, and †ignorant:
I was as ia beast †before thee.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee:
Thou hast holden me by my right hand.
24 jThou shalt guide me with thy counsel,
And afterward jjreceive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee?
And there is none upon earth that I desire kbeside thee.
26 lMy flesh and my heart faileth:
But God is the †strength of my heart, and mmy portion nfor ever.
27 For, lo, othey that are far from thee shall perish:
Thou hast destroyed all them that pgo a whoring from thee.
28 But it is good for me to draw near to God:
I have put my trust in the Lord God,
That I may qdeclare all thy works.
1 O God, why hast thou acast us off for ever?
Why doth thine anger bsmoke against cthe sheep of thy pasture?
2 Remember thy congregation, which dthou hast purchased of old;
The ||erod of fthine inheritance, which gthou hast redeemed;
This mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual hdesolations;
Even iall that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
4 Thine enemies iroar in the midst of thy jcongregations;
kThey set up their ensigns for signs.
5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up
Axes upon the thick trees.
6 But now they break down lthe carved work thereof
At once with axes and hammers.
7 m†They have cast fire into thy sanctuary,
nThey have defiled oby casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.
8 pThey said in their hearts, Let us †destroy them together:
They have burned up all the jsynagogues of God in the land.
9 We see not our ksigns:
qThere is no more any prophet:
Neither is there among us any that knoweth rhow long.
10 O God, rhow long shall the adversary sreproach?
Shall the enemy sblaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Why twithdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand?
Pluck it out of thy bosom.
12 For uGod is my King of old,
Working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 xThou didst †divide the sea by thy strength:
yThou brakest the heads of the ||dragons in the waters.
14 Thou brakest the heads of zleviathan in pieces,
And gavest ahim to be meat bto the people inhabiting the wilderness.
15 cThou didst dcleave the fountain and the flood:
eThou driedst up †mighty rivers.
16 The day is thine, the night also is thine:
Thou hast prepared fthe light and the sun.
17 Thou hast gset all the borders of the earth:
Thou hast †made hsummer and winter.
18 iRemember this, that the enemy hath kreproached, O Lord,
And lthat mthe foolish people have kblasphemed thy name.
19 O deliver not the soul of nthy turtledove unto the omultitude of the wicked:
Forget not the ocongregation of thy poor for ever.
20 Have respect unto pthe covenant:
For qthe dark places of the earth are full of rthe habitations of cruelty.
21 O let not sthe oppressed return ashamed:
Let tthe poor and needy praise thy name.
22 Arise, O God, uplead thine own cause:
iRemember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.
23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies:
wThe tumult of those that rise up against thee †increaseth continually.
To the chief Musician, ||*Al-taschith, †A Psalm or Song ||of Asaph.
1 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks:
For that thy name is anear thy wondrous works declare.
2 b||When I shall receive the congregation
I will judge cuprightly.
3 dThe earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:
I bear up ethe pillars of it. Selah.
4 I said unto the ffools, Deal not foolishly:
And to the wicked, gLift not up the horn:
5 Lift not up your horn on high:
Speak not with a hstiff ineck.
6 For promotion cometh neither from the east,
Nor from the west, nor from the †south.
7 But kGod is the judge:
lHe putteth down one, and setteth up another.
8 For min the hand of the Lord there is na cup, and the wine is red;
It is full of omixture; and he poureth out of the same:
But the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall pwring them out, and drink them.
9 But I will declare for ever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 All qthe horns of the wicked also will I cut off;
But rthe horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
To the chief Musician on *Neginoth, †A Psalm or Song ||of Asaph.
1 In aJudah is God known:
His name is great in Israel.
2 In bSalem also is his ctabernacle,
And his dwelling place in Zion.
3 There dbrake he the earrows of the bow,
The shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.
4 Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of fprey.
5 gThe stouthearted are spoiled, they have hslept their sleep:
And none of the men of might have found their hands.
6 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob,
Both ithe chariot and horse hare cast into a dead sleep.
7 Thou, even thou, art rto be feared:
And who may kstand in thy sight when once thou art angry?
8 lThou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven;
The earth feared, and was still,
9 When God arose lto judgment,
To save all the meek of the earth. Selah.
10 mSurely the wrath of man shall praise thee:
The remainder of wrath shalt thou nrestrain.
11 oVow, and pay unto the Lord your God:
pLet all that be round about him qbring presents †unto him that ought to be feared.
12 He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is rterrible to the kings of the earth.
To the chief Musician, *to Jeduthun, A Psalm ||of Asaph.
1 aI cried unto God with my voice,
Even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.
2 bIn the day of my trouble I sought the Lord:
†My sore ran cin the night, and ceased not:
My soul drefused to be comforted.
3 I remembered God, and was etroubled:
I complained, and fmy spirit was goverwhelmed. Selah.
4 Thou holdest mine eyes waking:
I am so htroubled that I cannot speak.
5 I have iconsidered iithe days of old,
jThe years of ancient times.
6 I call to remembrance my ksong lin the night:
I commune with mine own heart:
And my spirit made diligent search.
7 Will the Lord mcast off for ever?
And will he nbe favourable no more?
8 Is his mercy clean gone for ever?
Doth ohis promise fail †for evermore?
9 pHath God forgotten to be gracious?
qHath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.
10 And I said, This is rmy infirmity:
But I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
11 I will remember the works of sthe Lord:
