Matthew 4:7–12

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, hThou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. iAgain, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, kSatan: for it is written, lThou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, mangels came and ministered unto him.

Matthew 4:7–12 — The New International Version (NIV)

Jesus answered him, It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.

Jesus responded, The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’

Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

10 Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. For the Scriptures say,

You must worship the Lord your God

and serve only him.’

11 Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.

12 When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee.
