Isaiah 59:9–10

Therefore is judgment far from us,

Neither doth justice overtake us:

sWe wait for light, but behold obscurity;

For brightness, but twe walk in darkness.

10  uWe grope for the wall like the blind,

And we grope as if we had no eyes:

We stumble uat noonday as in the night;

We are in desolate places as dead men.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — The New International Version (NIV)

So justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us.

We look for light, but all is darkness;

for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.

10 Like the blind we grope along the wall,

feeling our way like people without eyes.

At midday we stumble as if it were twilight;

among the strong, we are like the dead.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not overtake us;

we hope for light, and behold, darkness,

and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope for the wall like the blind;

we grope like those who have no eyes;

we stumble at noon as in the twilight,

among those in full vigor we are like dead men.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — New Living Translation (NLT)

So there is no justice among us,

and we know nothing about right living.

We look for light but find only darkness.

We look for bright skies but walk in gloom.

10 We grope like the blind along a wall,

feeling our way like people without eyes.

Even at brightest noontime,

we stumble as though it were dark.

Among the living,

we are like the dead.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Therefore justice is far from us,

Nor does righteousness overtake us;

We look for light, but there is darkness!

For brightness, but we walk in blackness!

10 We grope for the wall like the blind,

And we grope as if we had no eyes;

We stumble at noonday as at twilight;

We are as dead men in desolate places.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — New Century Version (NCV)

Fairness has gone far away;

goodness is nowhere to be found.

We wait for the light, but there is only darkness now.

We hope for a bright light, but all we have is darkness.

10 We are like the blind feeling our way along a wall.

We feel our way as if we had no eyes.

In the brightness of day we trip as if it were night.

We are like dead men among the strong.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Therefore is justice far from us, neither doth righteousness overtake us: we look for light, but, behold, darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity. 10 We grope for the wall like the blind; yea, we grope as they that have no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; among them that are lusty we are as dead men.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Therefore is justice far from us, and righteousness overtaketh us not: we wait for light, and behold darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity. 10 We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at midday as in the twilight; amongst the flourishing we are as the dead.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

That is why justice is far from us,

and righteousness doesn’t reach us.

We hope for light, but we walk in darkness.

We hope for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope like blind men along a wall.

We grope like people without eyes.

We stumble at noon as if it were twilight.

We are like dead people among healthy people.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us.

We hope for light, but there is darkness;

for brightness, but we live in the night.

10 We grope along a wall like the blind;

we grope like those without eyes.

We stumble at noon as though it were twilight;

we are like the dead among those who are healthy.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us;

we wait for light, and lo! there is darkness;

and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope like the blind along a wall,

groping like those who have no eyes;

we stumble at noon as in the twilight,

among the vigorous as though we were dead.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us.

We wait for light, but look! there is darkness;

for brightness, but we walk in darkness.

10 We grope like the blind along a wall,

and we grope as without eyes.

We stumble at noon as in the twilight;

among the strong we are like the dead.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

We aren’t being treated fairly.

We haven’t been set free yet.

The God who always does what is right

hasn’t come to help us.

We look for light. But we see nothing but darkness.

We look for brightness. But we walk in deep shadows.

10 Like blind people we feel our way along the wall.

We are like those who can’t see.

At noon we trip and fall as if the sun had already set.

Compared to those who are healthy, we are like dead people.

Isaiah 59:9–10 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Therefore justice is far from us,

And righteousness does not overtake us;

We hope for light, but behold, darkness,

For brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope along the wall like blind men,

We grope like those who have no eyes;

We stumble at midday as in the twilight,

Among those who are vigorous we are like dead men.
