*Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ aby the will of God, according to bthe promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, cTo Timothy, dmy dearly beloved son: cGrace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

eI thank God, fwhom I serve gfrom my forefathers with hpure conscience, that iwithout ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers knight and day; lGreatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of mthy tears, that I may be filled with joy; When I call to nremembrance othe unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and pthy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou qstir up rthe gift of God, swhich is in thee tby the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us uthe spirit of fear; but vof power, and of love, and wof a sound mind. xBe not thou therefore ashamed of ythe testimony of our Lord, nor of me zhis prisoner: but abe thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; bWho hath saved us, and ccalled us with dan holy calling, enot according to our works, but faccording to his own purpose and ggrace, which was given us in Christ Jesus hbefore the world began, 10 But iis now made manifest by jthe appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, kwho hath labolished death, and hath brought life and mimmortality to light through the gospel: 11 nWhereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12 oFor the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless pI am not ashamed: qfor I know whom I have ||believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep rthat which I have committed unto him against sthat day. 13 tHold fast uthe form of vsound words, wwhich thou hast heard of me, in xfaith and xlove which is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good rthing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost ywhich dwelleth in us. 15 This thou knowest, that zall they which are in Asia abe turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. 16 bThe Lord give mercy unto cthe house of Onesiphorus; for he oft drefreshed me, and ewas not ashamed of fmy chain: 17 But, when he was in Rome, ghe sought me out hvery diligently, and found me. 18 bThe Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in ithat day: and in how many things he kministered unto me at lEphesus, thou knowest mvery well.

2 Thou therefore, amy son, bbe strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things cthat thou hast heard of me ||among many witnesses, the same decommit thou to ffaithful men, who shall be gable to teach others also. Thou therefore hendure hardness, as ia good soldier of Jesus Christ. No jman that warreth kentangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And lif a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not llcrowned, except he strive lawfully. m||The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. Consider what I say; and mmthe Lord give thee understanding in all things. Remember that Jesus Christ nof the seed of David nnwas raised from the dead oaccording to my gospel: pWherein hI suffer trouble, as an evil doer, qeven unto bonds; but rthe word of God is not bound. 10 Therefore I endure all things sfor tthe elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain uthe salvation which is in Christ Jesus with veternal glory. 11 wIt is a faithful saying: For if xwe be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 yIf we suffer, we shall also zreign with him: aif we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 bIf we believe not, yet che abideth faithful: dhe cannot deny himself.

14 Of these things eput them in remembrance, fcharging them before the Lord that they gstrive not about words hto no profit, but to the isubverting of the hearers. 15 Study to shew thyself japproved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But kshun lprofane and vain babblings: for they will mincrease unto more ungodliness. 17 And their word will eat as doth a ||canker: of whom is nHymenaeus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth ohave erred, psaying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless qthe foundation of God standeth ||sure, qqhaving this seal, rThe Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ sdepart from iniquity. 20 But tin a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and uof earth; and vsome to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If wa man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a xvessel unto honour, sanctified, and xmeet for the master’s use, and yprepared unto every zgood work. 22 aFlee also byouthful lusts: but afollow righteousness, afaith, acharity, cpeace, with dthem that call on the Lord eout of a pure heart. 23 But foolish and unlearned fquestions gavoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. 24 And hthe servant of the Lord must not strive; but be igentle unto all men, kapt to teach, ||lpatient, 25 mIn meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; nif God peradventure will give them repentance oto the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out pof the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

3 This know also, that ain the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be blovers of their own selves, ccovetous, dboasters, deproud, fblasphemers, ddisobedient to parents, gunthankful, hunholy, iWithout natural affection, itrucebreakers, ||false accusers, kincontinent, fierce, ldespisers of those that are good, mTraitors, nheady, ohighminded, plovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; qHaving a rform of godliness, but sdenying the power thereof: tfrom such turn away. For of this sort are they ttwhich creep into houses, and lead captive silly women uladen with sins, led away with udivers lusts, Ever learning, and never able vto come to the knowledge of the truth. Now was Jannes and Jambres xwithstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: ymen of corrupt minds, ||reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall zproceed no further: for their afolly bshall be manifest unto all men, cas theirs also was. 10 But ||dthou hast fully known my edoctrine, fmanner of life, gpurpose, hfaith, longsuffering, hcharity, hpatience, 11 iPersecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at kAntioch, at lIconium, at mLystra; what ipersecutions I endured: but nout of them all the Lord odelivered me. 12 Yea, and pall that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall qwax worse and worse, deceiving, and qqbeing deceived. 14 But rcontinue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that sfrom a child tthou hast known uthe holy vscriptures, wwhich are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 xAll scripture is given by inspiration of God, and yis profitable for ydoctrine, for zreproof, for acorrection, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That bthe man of God may be perfect, ||throughly furnished cunto all dgood works.

4 aI charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, bwho shall judge the quick and the dead at chis appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant din season, eout of season; freprove, grebuke, hexhort with all ilongsuffering and doctrine. For jthe time will come when they will not kendure lsound doctrine; but mafter their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and nshall be turned unto ofables. But pwatch thou in all things, qendure afflictions, do the work of ran evangelist, ||smake full proof of thy ministry. For I am now tready to be offered, and the time of my udeparture is at hand. vI have fought a good fight, I have wfinished my course, I have kept the faith: xHenceforth there yis laid up for me za crown of righteousness, which the Lord, zzthe righteous judge, shall give me at athat day: and not to me only, but unto all aathem also that love bhis appearing.

cDo thy diligence to come shortly unto me: 10 For dDemas hath forsaken me, ehaving loved fthis present world, and is departed unto gThessalonica; Crescens to hGalatia, iTitus unto Dalmatia. 11 kOnly dLuke is with me. Take lMark, and bring him with thee: for he is mprofitable to me for the ministry. 12 And nTychicus have I sent to oEphesus. 13 The cloke that I left at pTroas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. 14 qAlexander rthe coppersmith did me much evil: sthe Lord reward him according to his works: 15 Of whom tbe thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood ||our words. 16 At my first uanswer no man stood with me, kbut all men forsook me: I pray God vthat it may not be laid to their charge. 17 Notwithstanding wthe Lord stood with me, and xstrengthened me; ythat by me the preaching might be zfully known, and that aall the Gentiles might hear: and I bwas delivered cout of the mouth of the lion. 18 And dthe Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: eto whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

19 Salute fPrisca and fAquila, and gthe household of Onesiphorus. 20 hErastus abode at iCorinth: but kTrophimus have I left at lMiletum sick. 21 mDo thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren. 22 nThe Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. oGrace be with you. Amen.

The second epistle unto Timotheus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Ephesians, was written from Rome, awhen Paul was brought before Nero the second time.
