1 Samuel 6:20–7:2
20 And the men of Beth-shemesh said, cWho is able to stand before this dholy Lord God? and to whom shall he go up from us? 21 And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of eKirjath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the Lord; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.
7 And the men of aKirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of bAbinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord.
2 *And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.

21 Then they sent messengers to the people of Kiriath Jearim, saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord. Come down and take it up to your town.”
1 So the men of Kiriath Jearim came and took up the ark of the Lord. They brought it to Abinadab’s house on the hill and consecrated Eleazar his son to guard the ark of the Lord. 2 The ark remained at Kiriath Jearim a long time—twenty years in all.
Then all the people of Israel turned back to the Lord.

During that time all Israel mourned because it seemed the Lord had abandoned them.

2 A long time passed after the ark came to stay at Kiriath Jearim. For 20 years the entire nation of Israel mournfully sought the Lord.
