8yHe that committeth sin is of the devil; for zthe devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, athat he might bdestroy the works of the devil. 9cWhosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for dhis seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because ehe is born of God. 10In this fthe children of God are manifest, and gthe children of the devil: hwhosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither ihe that loveth not his brother. 11For kthis is the ||message lthat ye heard from the beginning, mthat we should love one another. 12Not as nCain, who was of othat wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? pBecause his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. 13Marvel not, my brethren, if qthe world hate you. 14rWe know that swe have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15tWhosoever hateth his brother is ua murderer: and ye know that vno murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16wxHereby perceive we the love of God, because xhe laid down his life for us: and ywe ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17But zwhoso hath this world’s agood, and seeth his brother have need, and bshutteth up chis bowels of compassion from him, dhow dwelleth the love of God in him? 18My little children, elet us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and eein truth.
