13 Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before. 14 Then they cried out to the Lord, “Please, Lord, do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, Lord, have done as you pleased.”

Jonah 1:13–14 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. 14 Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.

Jonah 1:13–14 — New Living Translation (NLT)

13 Instead, the sailors rowed even harder to get the ship to the land. But the stormy sea was too violent for them, and they couldn’t make it. 14 Then they cried out to the Lord, Jonah’s God. “O Lord,” they pleaded, “don’t make us die for this man’s sin. And don’t hold us responsible for his death. O Lord, you have sent this storm upon him for your own good reasons.”

Jonah 1:13–14 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to return to land, but they could not, for the sea continued to grow more tempestuous against them. 14 Therefore they cried out to the Lord and said, “We pray, O Lord, please do not let us perish for this man’s life, and do not charge us with innocent blood; for You, O Lord, have done as it pleased You.”

Jonah 1:13–14 — New Century Version (NCV)

13 Instead, the men tried to row the ship back to the land, but they could not, because the sea was becoming more stormy.

Jonah 1:13–14 — American Standard Version (ASV)

13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not: for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them. 14 Wherefore they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We beseech thee, O Jehovah, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood; for thou, O Jehovah, hast done as it pleased thee.

Jonah 1:13–14 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

13 But the men rowed hard to regain the land; but they could not; for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them. 14 And they cried unto Jehovah and said, Ah, Jehovah, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, Jehovah, hast done as it pleased thee.

Jonah 1:13–14 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
